I took the plunge and ordered my new wheels and tires and had them mounted up over the weekend.
First impressions are great, makes my Titan look and feel like a real truck now. I have already got a lot of compliments on the beast with only one drawback- complaints about trouble climbing in from my 10 year old daughter
For those of you looking for a 34-ish tire on aftermarket wheels, this size/offset combo may be a solution: Tires are BFG A/T KO's 305/65R18 E. Wheels are Boss style 315 18x8, 5" BS, +14mm offset.
Truck is a 2006 CC SE 4x4 Off-Road with a PRG 2" front/1" rear mini lift. I was really worried about fitment and rubbing, but it looks like I'll be alright with this setup. Plenty of clearance on the spindle. There is minor rubbing along the inboard backside of the plastic inner fender liners, with the tires making about 1/8" interference with the plastic at about 3/4 turn. I folded back the pinch weld underneath as soon as I got home from the shop to ensure I wasn't going to make the tires dragging along metal, but they still rub noticably on teh black plastic. Later I will either cut that plastic away or try to heat and reshape it. But OK for now. The new tires do stick out about 1/2" more than the old ones. I also cut back a lot of the mud guards so I could put them back on.
Ride is definitely a little stiffer, but not bad. Probably won't even notice it after a few weeks. No difference in acceleration, but I do have to press a little harder on the brakes to slow him down now. Unfortunately, the tires weren't properly balanced and I have a bad shimmy above 50 mph and have to take it back to Discount Tire for correction. Other than that I am pretty happy with the results
Oh yeah, I now have my old wheels and tires for sale if anyone is interested.
17" OEM off-roads, mint and 285/70R17 BFG Rugged Trails with 5,500 miles in great condition. Let me know if you know anybody looking for these.
