Hankook MT's?

I need new tires and I'm really interested in the Hankook Dynapro MT/s. They have really good reviews on Discounttire.com and are only $176. They also have a 40k warranty. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Re: Hankook MT's?

i have these tires in 35's and i would HIGHLY recomend them. i LOVE them and the $tag! yesterday i went dirt biking with my buddy and we took his lifted sierra with BFG MT's and the tires just seemed really loud and his truck shook like no other, and it was not his alignment or balence/rotation, his truck is always in serviced condition. they're good in mud and in the rain i never felt insecure. did i mention they look great too. A++++++

Re: Hankook MT's?

The LT285/70/17 (33" x 11.5" x 17"), looks good for the stock Off Road pkg, or XE rims. They would be fine stock or with a PRG leveling kit. But with a PRG level kit, or better, you might want to look at the next size up, (especially if you would consider re-gearing once new gears are available).

By next size up, I mean the LT315/70/17 size. However, unlike the the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial Traditional, the LT315/70/17 size of Hankook Dynapro MT/s are too wide for our 7.5" wide rims, IMO.

LT315/70/17 Hankook Dynapro MT RT03s are 34.6" x 12.7" x 17"
LT315/70/17 Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs are 34.6" x 11.9" x 17"

The reason I think the Mickey Thompson MTZs will fit, with a PRG level kit, is that lots of people run the BFG AT KO in the LT315/70/17 size with only the PRG level kit, and the two are almost an exact size match. The BFG true size is 34.5" x 12.0" x 17".

Btw, in the LT285/70/17 size, Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial Traditional are also available, as are the BFG AT KO, which I run. The BFG AT KOs are a great tire in the snow, having the severe weather rating in the 285 size, (which in some states exempts you from chain controls).

Re: Hankook MT's?

Thanks for the input. I've never heard or read anything bad about them yet, just never heard of Hankook before. I do have the PRG on the front of my O.R. package but wasn't sure if the 315's would rub or slow acceleration. I just need somethin' easy on the wallet.

Re: Hankook MT's?

The Hankook's are actually 12.1" wide on a 7.5" wheel. The 12.7 width is if you were to mount the tire on a 9" wide wheel.

The Mickey's will actually measure 11.7" wide on the 7.5" wheel. The 11.9" width is on a measuring rim of 8".

I do think the Mickey's are a better choice as it is a little narrower and agree with Warren that you would be pushing it a little with the Hankook's.Not that they won't fit or rub as I think they will be fine there, but I would be concerned about wear pattern and cupping of the tire. You may try to compensate with air pressure and frequent rotations if you really want to go with the Hankook's.

That's a good point, based upon the .2" difference per half inch of rim difference that you noticed on the BFG tire specs.

However, they also said that there is a +/- 4% tolerance on the widths listed in their spec sheet. So assuming these tolerances are also applicable across other manufactures, as you do with the approximate -.2" per -1/2" of rim, (and this seems reasonable to me too), then we need to look a range of sizes, instead of just a spec sheet value, even with the -.2" per -1/2" width value.

An example of this is shown in this thread:

Re: Hankook MT's?

If you want the BFG's, look up a Hummer H2 forum and post a thread for some "take offs".... They come from the factory with the 315/70R17 BFG A/T KO's.

Re: Hankook MT's?

my next set of tires will be the 315/70/17 Mickey MTZs! as far as the BFG MTs go, they are as smooth as my stock Goodyear SRAs, just louder. your buddy may need to get them re-balanced regardless if he's had his truck serviced 7 days a week. My BFG MTs don't shake and ride smooth, and did i mention look GOOD too?

here's the price i get for the Hankook's in a 35"... http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...1250&tc=HANVM1

Re: Hankook MT's?

To save $ and hassle I'll just put the stock 285's on again. Maybe go bigger the next time. I'll get new rims by then.
