sound from the brakes

I was wondering if this is normal. On uneven dirt and under a quick stop where the truck tends to slide a bit I get a sound from what I think is coming from the brakes. It sounds as if the brake is grabbing but as the truck bounces or slides across the terrain it forces the wheel to spin and makes a noise. The noise sounds kinda like a grind/popping. This only happens when I am on it pretty good and need to come to a stop fast on uneven dirt. Could this be the ABS?

Re: sound from the brakes

Most likely yes. It only happens on soft loose surfaces? Mine makes a quick gaaaa gaaaaaa gaaaaa sound when the ABS kicks in while off roading.

Re: sound from the brakes

yeah that's what I thought. Do you know of a way to easily switch the ABS on and off?

Re: sound from the brakes

There are some connections at the brake pedal, but I think they turn off the taillights also. Somebody posted a way to do it with a switch under the hood. I think they call it burn out mod if you search. Also, if you have a VDC off button, that should be turned off when offroad.
