Parking Brake Adjustment

Well I took the titan into the dealership for it's monthly visit (one way or another it ends up there every month). My parking brake is no longer holding on hills. They told me since I never came in for any brake services (Other than to have the brake fix done) that it will probably not be covered under warranty. $45 charge. I have 29k on my 05.

I was talking the a mechanic who was giving me a ride back home and he said it was probably an easy adjustment from under the truck. I have never done brake myself, and without some kinda manual I would be afraid to tear into them, front or back, especialy front since I have 4x4.

Anyone have any idea how to do this so I can save my $45 next time around?

It seems to have the problem ever since I had the leaky axle seal fixed.

Re: Parking Brake Adjustment

they probably didn'y adjust it completely after they put the @ss end together. This should be covered under the brake warranty. After the "fix" was done, Nissan extended a brake warranty incase the brake fix didn't work.

Re: Parking Brake Adjustment

They told me parking brake is not included under the brake warranty. I won't know for sure untill I pick it up. If they charge me I'm definately going to complain, your probably right...

What else can I do besides complain?

Re: Parking Brake Adjustment

well ic ould not find a TSB, service manager said it was not covered since I don't take my truck in for 7500 mile service intervals (where they would normally adjust it). They said it will periodicaly need adjustment (thats funny my old truck never did).

I check it out and there appears to be a 10mm nut under the brake lever, is Tightening that nut what they are calling adjustment? Or is there someplace else. I feel pretty stupid if I just paid someone $45 to tighten a nut that would take me less than 3 minutes to do myself...

Re: Parking Brake Adjustment

I need to do the same here. I'm actually curious if the "drum" parking brake inside the rear discs have adjusters like old school drum brakes....

Either DL the service manual or use the SEARCH button, paying particular attention to insightful posts by BAC and Austin.
