need advice on tire rubbing

just put on some 305/55/20 nitto all terrain tires on my 4x4 titan. i previously had 295/50/20 hankook tires on. i didn't realize that nitto tires were so freakin big. don't get me wrong. i love them. they make the truck look more bad ***. just a slight problem. they rub a little when full steering lock to either side. was wondering what others have done who have this same problem or would love some advice. i am thinking of shaving the plastic inner fender cover or/and remove the front mudflaps. not sure what to do. after a few months, once the tire wore down, prolly wouldn't be a problem but def. rubs when i turn the steering all the way. any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks, titanrookie

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

Many have removed their mud flaps. Also, behind the fender liner is a pichweld that can be trimmed or bent over for added clearance.

Get a mini-lift from PRG and take off the mud flaps...

Pinchweld mod should be fine and don't cost you nothing except your times.

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

i have the level kit on the front already but still rubs. what do you guys think about me just trimming the plastic inner liner. in my haste to get nitto tires, i didn't realize that they came in the 305/50/20 size. i could just kick myself. i have only had the tires on for two days, but im sure i am stuck with them now. thanks for the replies guys.

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

i just realized that only the left front tire rubs at full wheel turn. however, the right front just barely squeeks by without rubbing. why is this? any thoughts. bought the tires at americas tire co. they said i might be able to bring them back and put on the 305/50 instead of what i have. i have the 305/55 terra grapplers now. i just bought them a few days ago. any opinions on the slightly smaller tires. i know they won't rub.

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

remove liner, do pinch weld mod....either grind off weld or cut. I grinded mine down as well as the area on the bottom where it curves into where the mud flaps were as well. I removed the mud flaps too. I have no issues now. I have the Nitto 325/60/18s

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

i can either cut the inner plastic fender or take it out entirely. however, do i really have to do anything to the pinch weld. not sure why i would have to grind it down. the tire just barely rubs the plastic inner fender and mudflaps. would it suffice if i just cut a small section of the plastic fender out and remove the mudflaps. do you guys think that would be ok. not sure about this pinch weld thing. thanks for all your replies and suggestions.

Re: need advice on tire rubbing

Mine only rubs on the left side also. Just when i reverse left. I trimmed the plastic which only made it worse, as it exposed the metal pinch which catches the tire even more. Your going to have to remove some material from the pinch. There is plenty of information on this, just do a search.
