Wheel And Tire Size for 2WD Stock XE w/ PRG Leveling Kit
Does anyone know what tire sizes will fit on a stock XE without any kind of lift? I was wanting to get the 2" front lift to level out my truck, but I have no idea of anyone around here that does that so I guess I'll leave it stock. I want the widest tire that I can get without any rubbing and without having to do any kind of mod to it.
Any help would be great. Also, any links to reputable online dealers would help as well. Discount Tire doesn't seem to have that much of a selection when it comes to wheels in 17" to fit the Titan.

The PRG level kit as well as the coilovers he sells, (follow my sig link), can be installed by any local mechanic, and even a lot of mechanically inclined members have done it. Bolt on with no spring compressor needed. There are instructions too.
I had a DR dealer quote me an install at over $300, but a local shop charged me $105. Only a simple toe-in alignment is usually needed. There are instructions here for that too. Same mechanic could do it for $25 or less, just search, and print them out.
Anyhow, stock sized Off Road pkg. tires, (don't buy the rugged trails though), will work w/o level, 285/70/17 about 32.8" x 11.1" on a XE or O.R. rim.
With the PRG level kit, you could run a BFG AT KO LT315/70/17, at around 34.5" x 11.6" on our wheels. However, I think 34 " diameter maximum is a better choice. My Titan is on 33s, and it is probably lifted about 3", and looks o.k. IMO. My next aftermarket size might be one of these: LT305/70/17 (33.5" to 34" x 11.6" to 11.8"), or LT305/65/17 (32.7" x 11.6), or 295/70/17 (33.2" x 11.8").
With wider rims these tires will be a little wider, because our rims are only 7.5", they are pulled in a bit. For example, the specs may say 8.0-(9.0)-9.5. This means they suggest an 8.0 to 9.5" rim, and specs were taken on a 9.0" rim. So if sidewall width is 12.36" (on the 9"), we need to take off about 0.2" for every 1/2" less of width. So for 1.5" less, as in our case, this is 0.6" less sidewall width, or 11.76". But manufacturing tolerances cause variation, so it can be less or more.
Btw, aftermarket rims with any of these tires may rub, due to either rim width or smaller backspacing, or both. All '04 to '07 Titans have roughly 5.5" backspacing, while many aftermarket rims have 4.5" backspacing, so even at the same nominal width they would stick out an inch more than OEM. [Wheels sticking out causes fender rub at the pinch weld at full steering lock].
I'm not sure I understand much of that, but thanks for the reply. Basically, with an aftermarket rim, the largest tire I can go is 285/70/17 without a lift? With the lift I could go up to 315/70/17?
No stock rims, or aftermarket with the same ~5.5" backspacing, allows for the biggest tires.
With a level kit and stock rims, some Titans rub a little with 315/70/17s but some don't. So mud flap removal, and in some cases the pinch weld mod. I have a poll going on this, but I don't think all that many people have tried this size, so the poll probably won't give a definitive answer. I think it is tied 1:1 rub vs. not rub at the moment.
No lift, stock wheels, and no mods BFG AT KO LT285/70/17, 32.8" diameter and I think the Nitto Terra Grappler 295/70/17. 33.19" diameter.
With level kit, stock wheels, and no mods, Toyo MT LT295/70/17 33.5" diameter. Nitto Terra Grappler LT305/70/17 34" diameter (maybe).
With level kit, stock wheels and pinch weld mod, most 35 x 12.5 x 17
Disclaimer: Although some people use tires on rims of smaller widths than manufactures' recommendations, it is not something I am recommending to anyone.

you have been a big help. I am going to get new wheels to go along with the new tires. Those stock XE rims are horrible. I might get the leveling kit once I find someone around here to put it on. I'm going to talk to a guy today and hopefully he can help. He has put lifts on all his trucks so I'm sure he'll have an answer. Thanks again. I might need some more help in the future.
OK, I am going to order the PRG 2WD 2.5" leveling kit to go on my XE. I am planning on buying aftermarket 17" wheels and tires. I think I want the Nitto Terra Grappler LT305/70/17, but I need to know what wheels will fit and will they stick out? I don't want rocks hitting my paint.
I upgraded my '05 Titan Le w/Off Road Package OEM wheels from the Stock 17 Allow wheels to an 18" Boss Motorsports 304 Series Rim and 18 " Michelin Coss Terrain Tires. It rendered my On-The-Fly 4 wheel Drive dissengagement at freeway speeds inoperable. I didn't suspect the tires at first and thought there was a problem with the 4 wheel drive....its a long story. Nissan said the tires were at fault. I did not believe it. I had sold the OEM tires and was thus forced to go purchase a OEM set (got them on eBay). Lo and behold...I put the OEM Rims/Tires on and the 4 Wheels drive works flawlessly. The tire installer said the manufacturer stated the rims/tires are compatible with the Titan. So now I am trying to work with American Eagle Wheels Corp. to see if there is anything they will do for me.
I am out $2200.00 for the new Tires/Rims, $800.00 for the OEM purchase AND $300.00 to get the air pressure sensor valve stems back into the OEM wheels and numerous hours of time trying to figure out what the problem is.
I know one thing I will never again upgrade rims on a vehicle of this type.

I think I have finally decided on wheels and tires.
I plan to get the Nitto Terra Grapplers LT295/70/R17D1 123R B and Gunner 6 MB Wheels 17 X 8 6-139.7HR 25C. Will they fit without a problem after installing the PRG leveling kit? I plan to get them shipped from Discount Tire with the replacement warranty, installation kit, and valve stems for $1689 out the door.
Anyone have this exact setup? I would love to see some pictures. I noticed that they also make these wheels in black, I do not see them on the Discount Tire site. Hopefully I can get them by calling.

Because most people on here, (not all), have had very poor tread life out of the ones that come stock with the off road package. These were in the P285/70/17 size, and are actually an all-season tire, not an all terrain. This short tread life is fairly common for OEM tires ... not just BFGoodrich, in fact their AT KO tires, which are a light truck, (LT), are known to be long lasting tires for most.
Anyway my Rugged Trails were near illegal at 23,000 miles. I drive curvy roads , so I wasn't too shocked, but was expecting 30-35K miles, but because so many people on here complain about less than 25K miles, and only a few state greater than 30K, they seem to be a poor choice to me. Also, my aftermarket BFGoodrich AT KO LT285/70/17 tires already have 33K miles on them, and probably have 10K miles of tread left ... same driving conditions, [however they started getting really slick in the rain this year, but were fine before, so they will be summer tires].
If I was looking for a light-weight P-rated tire, instead of an LT tire, I'd look at the Toyo ATs and the Bridgestone Dueler Revo AT. Both are also available in heavier LT versions, in some sizes. [Finally the Revo is also available in an LT285/70/17]. With gas prices so high, I might actually be looking for a P-rated tire next time, since a 44 lbs. tire can save a couple of miles per gallon over a 73 lbs. tire, (my current are Toyo M/Ts in a LT295/70/17 and I've lost about 2 mpg over stock, and lost 1 mpg compared to the 58 lbs. KOs).
I had P245/75/17 Bridgestone Dueler ATs on my XE from the factory and I got 40,000 miles on them. I could have run them thorough the summer a little longer, but my wife drives the Titan with my two baby girls. The tires wore fairly evenly. The ice traction was not very good. It would have been nice to get another 10,000 miles from them. Not too bad for an OEM tires I guess.
I've heard those are good for long tread life. They are different than the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo though. I don't know which would last longer, but the Revos are loved by the majority of those that run them.
If your OEM tires are the Bridgestone Dueler A/T D693 II, the 245/75SR17 is rated Treadwear: 360 Traction: B. While the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo, in the 285/70TR17 is rated Treadwear: 500 Traction: A, which is much better.

yea i was also looking for bigger tires no necessarily wider but taller. my stock tires are 265/70r18 which are i think 31 inches tall? anyone know if i can fit 33's , maybe 35's stock? and what sizes those tires would be?
