BFG T/A KO LT305/65R18 vs Toyo A/T 275/70R18, any comments?

Well my SR-A's are getting close to replacement, so I'm in the market for something new.

I did a few quick searches for something that'd work with 18" wheel.

I think I've narrowed down to either the BFG T/A KO LT305/65R18 or the Toyo 275/70R18. Obviously the Toyo is slightly smaller, but mainly in width.

I'm looking for any experience with either of these tires.

Thanks.

The BFGs are nice, but a little squirmy in the tread. I have never used the Toyos so I cannot commnet

I've got the BFGoodrich All-terrain TA KO 285/65R18s (I know they aren't the 305s) and I like them a lot. They behave decently well on road and are still aggressive enough to do some light off-roading (since I work on the rigs, I run into a fair bit of snow and mud along the way). I have been told that you need to make sure you rotate them regularly as they are a little soft and will wear unevenly, but I haven't had any problems with them at all in the 50,000 KM I have on them so far. No real road noise to speak of and I expect I'll probably be able to get at least another 30-40,000 Km out of them.

Funny, my s-ra tires are nearing the end and I've narrowed my choices down to the exact same as yours, sizes and all. Although I've have an option #3 as the Cooper Discoverer ATR 275/70/18. I don't have much useful info to give you, but I'm considering the Cooper because I get the impression it would be a better snow tire than the other two. I like the look of the Toyo the best. I do have a concern about going from a 2 ply tire (SR-A) to an 8 (BFG) or 10 ply (all 275/70/18 tires) tire. I'm afraid the ride will be considerably stiffer, hopefully someone will chime in with first hand knowledge. The BFG's are quite spendy in that size!

Yes they are considerably stiffer as they are meant for off-road use and to be aired down and remain on the wheel!

Yes, they will remove mpg from your gas tank because they are significantly heavier that OEM stockies. (I lost 1 city/2 highway)

I have had them cut into and not blow out. I get good mileage out of them-about 45k-50k and recommend them.

I cannot comment on Toyo's

Looks like the BFG is also a 10 ply tire, not 8 as I previously thought. I've read that the sr-a tires weigh around 40 lbs, the toyos are listed as 52 lbs, couldn't find a weight on the BFG.

the BFG's are heavy compared to the stock crapyears. i have the 305/65/18's and love them. i did have some rubbing with just the leveling kit so i had to trim the mud flaps on both sides. other than that ive had no problems, put about 5K on them so far.
