New Poll for best Mud Terrain, longest lasting

ok, my last poll was weak sauce and i hadn't put much thought into it. i'm leaning towards the toyos, and 2nd place is a tie between the MTZ's and the Kumho's. so it's gotta come down to price & tread life (need at least 40K out of 'em). i can deal with a little road noise.
Personal experiences help the most. thanks guys!

I've put about 25K on my BFGs and I think they are just awesome! I think I can get another 30K or so on them. They aren't the best in the snow (at least in PNW wet snow) so I had mine siped.

did you notice a big difference after siping? how about handling? i've heard they're horrible in the rain and that they don't ride real smooth.

Dont think you will get 40K out of the MTZ's mine are at 22K and definately over half gone..hope to squeeze out 35K on them

if the snow is cold and dry and packed like in eastern Washington, the BFG MTs handle reasonably well. I didn't take them in deep snow as much but it seemed like they could dig them selves out and they do self-clean fairly well. They don't start from a dead stop as well in the wet slop the weather guys in Seattle call snow and the siping helped a little. I worry about the millions of other people in the area that freak out when we get 1 inch. I know how to drive in the stuff but I am considering getting a "cheap" set of rims and some dedicated snow tires if only to give me more of a chance to avoid other cars. When that stuff freezes overnight, you're pretty screwed anyways unless you have ice skates...

They are as good in the rain as my stock Bridgestones were, you just got to have weight in the bed with all the torque these beasts have. As for riding smooth, I have DRs on the front (stiffer springs) and I didn't get MTs for a smooth ride.

i've got the BFG Mudders and i can only say i've been pretty impressed. have about 30k on them now and probably if i pushed it could get another 30k, since they only look half worn from when i got them with about 5000 miles on them. may get mine siped for the duration of the 25-30k for the rainy months, like that really happens hear in socal but wouldn't be a bad idea, since siping is generally pretty affordable. the BFG mudders don't like water in city driving, but are fantastic when the rain on the highway is inches thick! reason why siping would be important if you're in a geographical area that gets rainfall, i.e..PNW.

i love my tires, but the toyos from what i've read and heard are supposed to be exceptional!! drawback is they are heavy, heavy MOFOs...

my next set of tires will be BFG Bajas, in either a T/A or if i get lucky, the Baja KRs... either way, they are the most bulletproof of tires in BFGs lineup!

let me also add that if you get MudTerrain tires, to make sure you DO a regular tire rotation on a 3 or 4 month schedule to get the most out of the tread AND also, if i may STRESS, to be sure to have your vehicle properly aligned for a misalignment will EASILY chew thru the tread and Mud terrain tires are notorious for developing an uneven tread once the misalignment kicks in. subsequent effect, your tires will hum and drone much louder than before getting them new, so stay on top of that!!!

how many miles would i get out of them? what are people averaging? the lugs aren't too deep and i've read that they're a bit softer compound~i don't want awesome performance if the tread life stinks...

hard to say how many miles you'd get out of the KL71s since they're a realitively new tire, I had 10-12K on mine and tons of tread left, I'd say almost 75-80% if next owner keeps up on the alignments/rotations..............but they are badazz in the mud, they gotta a good test when I went to baja in march, drove through a little ravine and had to punch it (being 2wd and all), that was the worst mud they had seen and they went through very very well...........

but because the compound is relatively soft, they MUST be rotated and you MUST get alignments on schedule to keep them in good shape

^^don't really like the looks of the coopers for some reason. i think i'm down to the bfg's or the baja's. i'm gonna have to go with a 285/70/17 and put 'em on my stock OR wheels. i was gonna lift it & go with 35's, but recently found out that i can't afford that...
