Best brakes

Ok. I've done a little searching on here but I'm rather mechanically inept. I have to do a brake replacement soon and I'm really not sure what all that intails. Is it just going to be brake pads? Is it rotors and other things as well? I have 35,000 miles on my 06 right now.
My question is this? What should I do, just replace pads or replace more of the brakes? I will only have this truck for another 20,000 - 25,000 miles at the most. Should I go to the dealer or should I go somewhere else?

I have no lift or aftermarket tires or rims. I am putting a leveling kit and I will be putting some AT tires on it soon though.

Typically, a decent brake job also entails removal of the rotors and taking them someplace to get them "dressed" or "turned". That's where they smooth out all the little ridges and such so your new pads seat in well and stop the vehicle nicely.

If the rotors are only lightly scored, this can be done with no problems. The stock rotors require a minimum thickness of .94 inches so if they are terribly worn, they will need to be replaced.

Removal of the rotors is just two bolts per wheel, so it's not a major deal. It just means you need to line up the rotor turning, remove them, deliver them, get them back, and reinstall them. Or just replace them.

What makes you think you need a brake job soon? Considering you are only keeping the truck another 20k miles, I would go with a basic brake job (pad replacement and resurface the existing rotors). Any shop can do this. The dealer will be the most costly. Shop around.

My brakes are starting to squeel so I need some type of brake job. I've read about people needing them earlier than 35,000. But this is why I asked what would be best to do.

Squealing does NOT always mean you need a brake job. You need to pull the wheels and check the pads. If they are worn down to within 1/16 or less, you definitely need new pads. I don't usually let mine get down that far, but to each his own. Squealing may just mean they need some anti-squeal lube. Get your hands dirty and check 'em out.
