Since I bought my new tires, the Bridgestone Revos Duelers AT my mpg is down by one mpg. I was told by a friend of mine its because of the all terrain agressive tread I have on my tires. Are there any tire experts out there that can verify this claim. Thanks

I am certainly no tire expert, but what your friend told you is true. There are several things with tires that can change your MPG. The tread pattern, width, diamter, and even the compound used in the rubber. Normally these effects are minimal like the 1 MPG you mentioned, but when you go with a much larger or aggressive tire the effect gets much larger also.

my mpg have not change at all with the new set of Mickey Thompson ATZ'S i just had put on. my truck came with the bfg rugged trails 285/70/17. the atz's have way way more tread depth then the stock bfg.
an with the atz there is very little nosie, very low highway same as the stock bfgs or better! i'm very happy with these tires they are a true truck tire with 10 plys and seem to be waring like iron. put about 600 miles on them so far and still have the little rubber peaces sticking out of them. u do have to run these tires at 50psi min cold. but they still ride great, nice an smooth.

I would really love to see some pics of your MT tires, and how much did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking? thanks

Hi! All, I have a 05 Titan that came with bfg 285/70R17's. So far I have 28k miles and am pretty sure that my tires are not going to make it for the winter. I know think I want to replace the tires bfg again only getting 30 k.
I would like to get a tire that will last at least 50 k that is an all round tire with a good ride, won't deteiate gas mileage and still get a good ride and can haul with a tralier.

This is funny!!
How in the hell can you determine that you are losing one(1) MPG????
Every tank of of gas I have put in this truck has varied on the MPGs, there has never been a constant!!
Please tell me this is a joke!!

BBomar, not a joke. I check every tank. I lost about 1 mpg when I put the revo's on. but then again, coming back from OTIV I got almost 18 mpg going 80 + mph.
But that may be because I was drafting off KRonos the whole time.

Unless you drive your truck the exact same way, every day, same speed, same distance, no variables what so ever....... Then maybe you could tell!
But throw in stop and go traffic, rain, snow, passing, road rage, racing, being late!! Come on you really can't measure a 1 MPG change!

u can just go to the Mickey Thompson web site 4 the pic,it's called the (Baja ATZ Radial Plus) this is the one model im talking about, they also have a reg. atz but the plus model is more quite 4 highway running.
it will also tell u where to buy them. the tires are not cheap but are top of the line.
I payed $876.00 4 all 4 with road hazard an free blance/rotations, this was a very good deal I got about $200.00 off cause freds tire had bought 500 of them to get a great price. the 285 is a very big stock tire an u can expect 2 pay near a grand 4 a set with road hazard/ rotation coverage. was told i can expect between 60 to 70k life out of them with good rotation!
u guys have 2 see these tires, they ride great are quite an have very deep tread depth about 32 i think. I'm told by freds that alot of guys around here use them 4 there snowplowing trucks cause the traction is so good and they last, u get alot of miles out of them.

I got the MT MTZ's and these things ROCK! they ride smooth but have the classic mud tire sound - I have 23,000 miles on them now and I expect to get another 18 to 20,000 out of them

The MT tires are the way 2 go! case closed! The Baja ATZ radial Plus tire are quiter then those stock BFG RUGGED TRAILS ! And in the 285/70/17 it looks like about 3 times the amount of tread! I have run the bfg KO'S on my fords but they make 2 much noise 4 my tast. but these ATZ'S u got it all! great traction, very low noise an long life . these are the only tires i will ever buy period!
If any of u need a set of new tires the MT ATZ PLUS kicks ***!
I never thought it was possible 2 have an agressive AT true truck 10 ply tire that made very very little nosie on the highway.
What you are saying is very common for people who check. when your old tires get lower on tread depth and are in need of replacing, thats when the car is at the most efficient because there is very little squirm. new tires have full tread depth, the the mpg is typically lower by a bit, and the sportiness of the tire does not feel the same. as they wear, they squirm less and youl be back to square one.
