Got under my truck the other day, and noticed what I assume is brake fluid driipping down the inside face of my wheel. It appears a fair amount, the other side nothing at all. This is on my rear axle, what would cause a fluid loss?
Seriously though, wipe it with a white rag, are the edges of the stain red, or mostly black. Brake fluid is red.
Your truck must be a vampire, because brake fluid is actually clear or a very faint yellow that darkens as it gets old and dirty. Power steering fluid is red and most ATF is red with the exception of a few synthetic ATFs.
If your brake fluid is red I'd say it's time to flush it!

I was changing my rear diff. fluid. Seen the same thing, thought it was brake fluid. Assuming my wife screwed something up (she drives it all the time) ran up to the dealer and found out rear seal was blown. Dealer said "no big deal happens all the time" take it to your dealer because "its no big deal" good luck

Just wait until our warranties run out, and then it will be a big deal.

Not to drag back up an old topic, but:
Yahoo, what year is your truck? I just worked on the brakes, and bled them for good measure. Factory fluid was red beyond question. The new stuff I was putting in was Prestone, and that was slightly yellow.

Go get your axle seals fixed under warranty!!!! Hurry .......chop chop!!!
will they replace both seal's, or just the one leaking?
Typically just the problematic one, but you do have a good case on your hands by how many of us have had the issue. I myself had to have both fixed, seperately. Depending on the mileage of your truck you may want to offer the suggestion of fixing both. I'm not sure what they do, but on the warranty sheet it said "axle leak problem resolved", so i think they have something new or different for the issue. Remember when dealing with the dealer......the squeeky wheel ALWAYS gets the grease.

As my sig says I have a 2005, though in terms of newness it's more like a 2006 (7/2006 in-service date, bought it "used" with about 50 miles on it back in 11/2006 and am the "original" owner).
Was the original fluid in the master cyl red or did it just come out of the calipers red? ... I just went out and checked my fluid, it's got a red tint to it. Not a deep, bright red like ATF by any means, but definitely not yellow/clear. The Quest's fluid was normal color (yellow/clear) and the Titan specs standard DOT3 fluid just like it. I'm gonna call this one "weird" since I don't know if this is the normal color or contaminated color, I'll have to call up and ask a service tech.
Doesn't make sense that they would use different colored fluid than other vehicles.
EDIT: Crap, where'd my sig go?!
EDIT 2: There is is...weird.

Sounds like the same stuff, red tint is a good description. It was the same color coming out of the bleeder, I was draining it into a clear container.
ATF is darker you say? Must be what is all over the bottom of my truck then. I should fix that trans cooler fitting sometime.
