Steering Stabilizer Success

well I went into work this morning and finished the steering stabilizer i've been working on (didn't have to change as much as I thought from my original attempt yesterday). So far I've only built one for the passenger side but plan on mirroring it onto the drivers side. This has taken care of my steering shimmy between 40-55. But has made me realize that something is still wrong. The steering wheel no longer has back and forth play, but vibrates between 40-55. But it's not just the steering wheel, its just more noticable in the steering wheel because the shaft ties to the rack/pinion directly on the frame where everything else in the cab is dampened a little bit by cab mounts, seat mounts and other such things. I believe I may have a defective tire, but thats another thread. I'm adding a link to some pictures of the completed stabilizer asm (passenger side only thus far). Clearance on it is good all the way around and accounts for full suspension movement without binding the bushings on the stabilizer. I used some RS9000 15in closed and 22.5in open (already had these). These happen to hit the bottom the same time the steering does. I'll probably get some shocks that are 14in closed and 21 open. It only needs 5in of travel but 1in on each side allows for the X factor. I'll try to answer any question. This design will only work on the drop suspension but a similar design could be used for stk and prg'd titans and armadas.
here's the link
New Steering Stabilizer

i'll add more pics mon or tues when I add the other side.
later

Just a thought, but your tires may not be balanced properly. It's difficult to balance these large tires. I had a shimmy at certain speeds but then had the tires balanced properly and the shimmy is gone at all speeds.
Also, I dont know if your rims are hub centric or not, but if they aren't make sure you have some hub rings. Good luck.

Re: Steering Stabilizer Success

I've been waiting for someone to figure this out. I asked Greg, but no response.
Foy, is that a 9000 stabilizer or suspension shock? Susp shocks are not valved 50/50 so could be allowing your vibration? So if you're using susp shocks, forces will even out when you get the other side on.
Keep us updated!

Re: Steering Stabilizer Success

we built a stabilizer for our race truck and it worked out cool. used a fox gas shock and built a bracket that mounts behind the rack and pinion using the same holes. we have hiem joint rod ends on our tie rods so the bolt in that location was the best place to connect the stabilizer. i am not at my own computer but will put up some pictures, they say a thousand words. we run 37" pro comp tires and this stabilizer made a huge difference.
i built another unit for a friend who runs 35" tires and he was real happy with it. took his "shimmy" out. same problem i saw some of your guys reporting with larger tires. there may be pictures on our web site poe619.com in the media section. one way or the other i will get some pics up quick.
