Saw an ad for discounttiredirect.com in Car and Driver earlier. Decided to check them out, and saw that I can buy 4 Nitto Dune Grappler tires in the 315/70/17 size for $770.40 shipped to my door. Brand new, no seconds or blemishes. So, how are these tires? I hear they are quieter for on-road use, which is going to be 90% of my driving anyway. Let me know what you all think, or if you have these, give me a review. Thanks!

Here's a few threads on them. Personally, I went with the Terra Grapps because of the numbers of people who've been happy with them and I'm really glad that I did. They handle well for an A/T including in the sand so personally, I don't see any reason for the Dune Grapps unless you just want a cool looking mostly onroad tire because they do look really cool.
I don't know the 315 70/17 tire will fit on the OEM Off Road wheel. The width of the OEM OR wheel is 7.5 inches. According to the Nitto Tire website http://www.nittotire.com/#index%2Eti...appler%2Esizes the approved rim widths are 8.5 - 10 inches for that tire. However, I know many Titan owners don't play by the rules and go against manufacturer's recommendations. Find out for sure if they will work before you buy them.
I'm fairly sure they'll do better off road than the terra grapplers, they have some 1/2" deep tread and decent amounts of open tread, I guess you'd call the large gaps. seen them in person at a shop, I actually thought they were tighter tread pattern and not so deep tread... I'm almost positive those 2 things alone work for better grip offroad in conjunction with the compound. and they look WAY more of an offroad tire than the Terra's up close with their on road design lugs and tread pattern. I don't even consider street tires like terras for my truck. not even an option, they're ATs and are made for pavement regaurdless of what anyone says about their offroading. you want REAL offroad tires, they're purpose built and usually made of a sticky compound and wouldn't last 10,000 miles on the street... so that being said, if you want mud you tires you get swampers, mild offroading you get a crossover tire (Dura, ProC X-AT, Truxus MT or STS to name a few) or of you Baja you'd probably like BFG-TAs or possibly the Maxxis stickies or something... the guys who run ATs imo, are guys who don't want noise, don't really offroad, and probably live in a city somewhere and can afford a big truck with a semi-aggressive look. not putting anyone down. I live semi-country, we're kinda 3rd world actually... have a horse and will probably get a boat and quad a little down the road and actually do a healthy amount of off roading... enough rock crawling to tear my gas tank skid plate bolt heads right off and have it bend back *big accomplishment for some 1/16 sheet metal * and kinda destroyed the front OR skid as well left it at my buddies house where he said he'd cut it up for his buggy possibly down the road, but the buggy has 1/4" diamondplate so I dunno what he'd do with the pos stock OR skid
anyway, not trying to razz the terra here, like I said different strokes for different folks, just that I don't see the Dura being a more street tire than a Terra is all... it's more of a xover tire like the pro comp xtreme AT, with fancy looks as previously stated, I don't plan on running them, but may down the road depending on costs and how much mudding I do this year as I'm sure they'll be fine over rocks which is where I do majority of my offroading...

The link below is the best set of pics I have even though they're not much and it was mild terrain, I do offroad fairly often in worse terrain but I usually don't take a camera with. If I lived in Hawaii, there's no way I'd run anything but M/T's and I did wonder if I'd regret going with A/T's this last round but I have to say I am really impressed with the Terras even though they don't look like much I'd be surprised if the Dunes or Duras did a whole lot better offroad. If I were to swap these out for anything else, it'd be an M/T. Just trying to share from experience because I thought the exact same thing before getting them on.
The shop I bought my Terragapplers from said the Dunegrapplers are terrible when it comes to wet traction, so if you do a lot of driving on wet roads, you probably want to avoid them...
looks like you do a fairly good offroad session. try airing down a little next time and you may not have to double peddle it as for the tires. I don't accredit them for much. they're good ATs but some things just can't be done with ATs imo, and I've owned ATs, MTs and crossovers PC X-ATs... and can say in mud nothing touches the MTs. on the road when wet, regular ATs are the best. when it comes to a little of both I preferred the X-ATs. but still debating this round if I want to go with something like the mud grappler or some swampers or what have you. or simple x-over type again so it lasts longer and rides nicer on the road.
and now that he says the dune sucks when it's wet it leads me to believe it is a pretty good OR tire. like I said it has deep treads and somewhat open at least for what I thought was a street tire. no siping I didn't really see either so it's understandable they suck in rain
