I got a line on some BFG A/T KO's in 315/70/17 flavor. What I want to know is, with the standard (non Big Tow) gears, am I pushing it? Is my truck going to be a pig with these tires mounted up? I mean, I know I am going to get **** for gas mileage and I have accepted that fact. I just don't want it to feel like my old F-150 and be slower than hell.
Also, anything to worry about oon the drivetrain, pushing those big heavy tires with the stock rear diff?
Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to the TruTrac+3.73s but it's not in the budget for now. One more question, how will the tires affect towing ability? AND!!! will they fit on stock offroad rims? I need to know by the morning, or my deal expires. Thanks in advance TT.
Those tires are actually pretty light weight, so I wouldn't worry about the added stress on the drivetrain. The truck will be a little slower, but it shouldn't be too bad. I didn't really notice a change on my truck when I was running them, but I do have the OR package.

BFG A/T 315/70/17s aren't even true 35"s they're like 34.5"s... quit yer worrying! i push 37" tires and have 2.94 gears and have 74,000 miles... do you think i'm pushing it?
btw, titanicDJ has a ProComp 6" lift and BFG A/Ts in the 315/70/17 size and tows a 10k lb trailer... he doesn't have problems and tows all the time...
Even with the lower gears I wouldn't go over 34", (the 315s are 34.5"), mainly because loufish had issues with his torque converter not locking when it should when he ran them.
But, my 33.5" Toyo M/Ts are sucking 2 mpg more than stock, and that's mostly due to their 73 pounds. My Titan is still very quick ... but sluggish compared to when I had the 58 pound BFG AT KO tires in a LT285/70/17, (the KOs didn't seem sluggish compared to the 44 lbs. Rugged Trails, so maybe the point that has an affect is somewhere between 58 and 73 pounds ... at least for the lower geared Titans.
Well I found a deal on the 295/70/17 at discounttiredirect.com so I ordered those instead. They measure 33.3" diameter compared to my current tires at 31.5" diameter. Hope they're not too small. Oh well...

those are almost as small as my stock SE tires that came with my truck... they'll be small, well depends on how you look at it i guess... 33.3" to 32.6"
here's my titan way back when with a 6" lift via cst spindle and DR C/Os with stock SE wheels and tires (32.6" Goodyears).... small to me...
fleet manager, I'm gonna have to agree with hooli here, I just looked up the thread where you posted before and after pics of your truck and 315/70/17s would've been perfect....it's a good size for your lift, new 33.3" tires will basically look the same as your 'after' pic with the lift

If you have a level kit with the CST spindles, just remove it and sell it. Performance over looks!
Later if you get some coilovers, just set them for 0 preload.
Btw, if you got the Nitto TGs thay are only 55 pounds, 3 lbs. less than the KOs in the LT285. Nice choice if they are the ones you picked.
Btw2, if the same looking tires in hooligan's pic were on a 17 OR rim, it would look better and a 295 TG is a lot more agressive looking than the stock 18s, IMO.

might as well just take it all off and go back to stock if he's gonna run small tires... what's the point? performance on a racetrack? 37s, no swaybar, etc... i love the way she leans on turns now! like a trophy truck!
It's a 2WD truck, and I never go offroad, I want the look. And besides, the new Nitto TG is nearly 2 inches taller than my current tire and much beefier. I'm happy with my choice, and the price was nice too.
ETA: I'll occasionally be going to Glamis and the like, but never any serious offroading. I'll post some pics when the tires get here.

The OP stated he didn't want to be to have his Titan become a pig, and the TGs will kick some serious *** off road, and on ... especially if he drops it to 4" instead of that mall look.
Btw, your truck is awesome, but it would be quicker with smaller tires. Are you sacrificing droop for lift to fit those 36.5s?

my truck is still shorter than all the ford, chevy, dodge trucks with mall lifts down here. and you can seriously kick some serious @ss with travel... and i lost 0 droop with my 36.3s (from official BFG site) as you can see in my signature.
The reason I asked, is you do have a history of lifting a little more than needed, (like in the photo you posted), and with more preload you start loosing droop.
For instance on the DRE/Icons, ICON Jon stated, (I'm paraphrasing here), that the optimal setting is 0.75" of thread, and after that, droop starts being sacrificed as height is increase. Actually is sounds to me like any preload and you're loosing droop, but they tune them to 0.75" since they know they will be used to level the Titan. Here's a link to his post ... http://www.titantalk.com/forums/1257026-post6.html
So I was wondering if you sacrificed some droop performance for looks, like you have with a bigger diameter tire.
oh... well that explains it... just going for Pavement Princess status... well, then that's a perfect combo...
Gee thanks. I just figured I am currently running a 31.5" tire, and going to a 33.3" won't totally murder my fuel mileage and it'll look halfway decent. Plus, I had a set of TG's before, and they were great tires. And yes, I will go offroad once in a while but nothing extreme like I said. I think it'll look decent anyway.
90% of my driving will be on-road and the other 10% off, so I figured I didn't need to go all out with a 35" tire. Not to mention, I don't like the way a 35" tire looks on a 17" rim (makes the rim look tiny) and plus it's STILL a 2WD truck!
