Thumbs up Help me pick a tire

Narrowed down to these 4. I really like the look of the Kumho's how are those tires ? I stayed with the stock size, I am PRG leveled and do all highway and street driving.

Re: Help me pick a tire

From the tread patterns and your driving habits I would pick the Toyo. Quieter during highway use than the others it appears. it's as close to a Michelin as you can get as far as that goes.

Re: Help me pick a tire

I second the Toyo's. Second option would be the Kumho's if you wanted a more aggressive looking tread. Toyo's would be my first preference though; I love my Open Country AT's.

Re: Help me pick a tire

Quiet is a good thing.
I think it should be part of your choice, followed by wear ratings.

thanks for the replies so far.

Are Kumho's good tires? The guy at Allen Tire highly recommended the Toyo's. Didnt mine the look to much.

The Kuhmo's are acceptable in every category. The Toyo's would exceed them in most all ratings though. But I am sure the Kuhmo's are more attractive price wise.

My preferences when tire shopping are :

1. Traction (wet&dry)
2. Noise
3. Wear
4. Price

Re: Help me pick a tire

If I had to put those in order it would go:

Price
Traction (wet)
Wear
Noise

Although price and traction are pretty darn close. I hated the slippery SRAs, and wrecked my previous truck due to crappy wet traction.

Re: Help me pick a tire

Why the Toyo HT? Why not the Toyo AT open country. Anywhew I like the TOYO'S. The one thing I'll tell you is that you need to rotate TOYO's on a regular basis in order to get the most out of these tires. And as for ALLEN TIRE most of these stores have good qualified managers and salemen that have years of tire experience. They have good equipment as well as nitrogen if you like to get your fill....

When I was looking for Tires I did look at the Kumho's also. They should be more attractive price wise; the biggest factor for me was the treadwear, second being availability. I read more than a few reviews on the Kumho's that noted significant treadwear. Now, that has to be taken with a grain of salt based on driving style, etc., but I didn't seem to find the same issues when researching the Toyo's. There was a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty with the Toyos that was attractive for me also.

Availability wise, I was hard pressed to find local tire shops that had the Kumhos, while several stocked the Toyo AT's. While I could have ordered from TireRack, by the time I factored in shipping / installation, I was at the same price as the already available Toyos.

To me, both tires seemed equal in most categories, so I used the treadwear / availability as my determining factors.

Thanks!

The local stores said they would order for me. Didnt go into detail about how much more the tire would be but most places around here did not carry the Kumho's. Said they would have to order.

Re: Help me pick a tire

I only went with the AT's due to the sometimes crappy weather here in the Northeast; for the climate your in and type of driving your doing, the HT should be fine.

I see your point. The AT do have great driveability in all weather conditions. So if you go to the mountains, beach or in rain the AT is a better tire(IMO). But strickly highway and street and seeing it doesn't rain here much than the HT would be fine. What is the cost difference between the two? And are both locally stocked if you ever need replacements? I know everone stocks the AT, just not sure about the HT.... My .02...

Re: Help me pick a tire

I got some REVO's after the Goodyear's wore out. I love 'em! They are great great great in the rain. They are also very solid. I have taken them in some light mud, and they did great. I would recommend these tires to anyone!
