new/used wheels & tires- excess outerwear

I got some Coastal Chrome 20's with Terra Grappplers. There is excessive tire wear on the outer edges. (see pics) most of the tread is great though. The titan owner I bought them off of has a lift. My guess is there was no re-alignemnt after the lift was installed. Is the tire safe to drive on? I was going to drive on it a month or so, till I descided on new tires. Should I have them re balanced? Is it better to have most of the tread on the outside or inside of the wheel?

picture order: (out side of wheel on left except pic 5) overall width, outside edge, overall, inside edge, distant shot of outside edge.

tires are fine to use. When you put these on have your alignment checked

You might want to consider remounting the tires so that the good edge on to the outside of the truck. It might bite better when cornering.

Just put the worn tires on the back with the good side to the outside of the rim.

Re: new/used wheels & tires- excess outerwear

Well a friend and I mounted the wheels on but it would rub on the fender well plastic cover. and since some nice person backed into the driver side corner of the fender and bent the bottom corner in towards the tire the tire wouldn't clear it. They looked awesome but I didn't want to take the chance. I'll see if I cant find someone that has some nice 18" wheels that might want to trade. Thanks for the replies.

Re: new/used wheels & tires- excess outerwear

was at it today with the sawzall grinder and bought a 1350* heat gun... I think I only gained a little over an inch, but it's gonna be needed badly so I suppose it was worth it... kinda deformed drivers side fender liner @ 1350* but I was too lazy to take my time on a lower setting, ran 950* or something and it was taking too long... I wasn't sure how hot the actual air was so I shot it on my glove while wearing it for like 10 seconds and damm near melted it to my hand hilarious... needless to say I won't test heat like that again. ANYway, if you get those tools out PWM isn't hard, just make sure you get a very fine tooth sawzall blade. my 1st bi-metal milwakee blade got me no where... trip to home depot solved it within a minute the better blade hacked it off didn't take pix before or after but I do have a piece from what I cut off on one side picked up some 20x10 weld evo velociti 8 XT wheels that need to be refinished and a set of used toyo MT 35"s for $1000 one pair of tires look to have some camber ware outter edges but other than that look pretty new on the side walls and around half tread. planning to either sell the welds for like $650 as is or get them powder coated and sell um for more look just like this pic with the EVO on it and all if I had a dodge or 2000+ chevy 8 lug I'd keep um so if I can even sell them for $600 I get the tires for $400 so if I get $650 I got the tires for $350 which is nice. 2 tires are solid like I said, 2 probably will last 15000 or so miles if I can't mount them on the inside and somehow reverse wear the tires so it gets more even and use on the side that's still cherry... we'll see. either way. if all works out it'll be a good deal. and no matter what they're not as bald as the stockers I'm borrowing right now here's a pic of the rim type
