Another tire thread

OK,
I'm new here, but I have searched for the answer and can't find it.

I'm buying an 04 that needs tires.

I need to know what is the biggest/best size tire you fit on a stock unlifted Titan without any mods.....

Thanks,

Re: Another tire thread

I just had Nitto Terra's in 285-65-18 on my 2007 SE 4x4 today and there is no rubbing...looks good too! They are only a little wider and not really taller than my stock SR-A.

Re: Another tire thread

^^^^^Agreed. You might be able to go a little bigger but will run the risk of rubbing. If you just level it out you will open up many more options for yourself. Some people have gotten away with 35's on the stock rims with just a leveling kit.

Re: Another tire thread

Well,
bought my truck tonight and drove it home. Rides surprisingly nice for a truck. I swear it has everything except the nav. Anyway, the tire size on there is 265/70/R18. Would I be able to go 285/70/R18 without rubbing??? I don't want to lift it any, I have the CJ5 for that. Just want a nice tire on there. Does anyone even make a 285/70????

I'm going to have to search some more now......

I don't think there is a tire in that size. They do have 275/70/18 which would give you 33's.

Re: Another tire thread

Since it has 265/70's on it now, would the 275/70's fit without lifting or leveling???

Sorry, totally new to this Titan stuff. I have been driving a CJ5 around for the last 3 years. Hard to get used to how big this thing is!!! And the power is great..

Re: Another tire thread

I don't think you should have any problems. The overall diameter is only about 1.5" more than the stock tires.

Re: Another tire thread

The 275/70/18's are only about .5" taller than the 285/70/18 stockers, not 1.5". Unfortunately, from what I've found all of the 275/70/18's on the market are heavy duty tires.

You're running into the same issue I am right now: Finding a proper larger tire for the 18's. The biggest issue you run into is that the HUGE majority of 18" profiles larger than the OEM are heavy-duty/ply tires that weigh a great deal more (like 25%-50% more per tire) which takes a big bite out of fuel economy. It's feels kind of silly putting a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck tire on the Titan, at least to me.

Personally, I'm just going to bite the bullet, put up with the mileage drop, and slip on the larger tires- in my case the BFG AT's in either 285/65/18 or 303/65/18. I'm guessing my mileage drop will take me from a 13.5 MPG average to a 12 MPG average. Seeing as I'm already getting 3/4 ton gas truck fuel consumption, I might as well have the tires to match.

The stock tires are 265/70/18 not 285/70/18. The overall diameter of the stock tires is 31.8" while the overall diameter of 275/70/18 tires is 33.2".

Doh! Typo on my part.

I had 285 on the brain since that's the section width that I'm thinking about buying. I meant to say 265/70/18, not 285/70/18.

But the 0.5" figure I mentioned stands. That's the marginal height difference between the OEM 265/70/18's and a 275/70/18. It's most certainly not 1.5".

Just plug the two into a tire calc- 32.6" vs. 33.15".
