Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

Nope. Stock wheels, stock tire size.

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

To the OP...

If you're empty in the rear(no real payload) you can run 32-35 psi no problem....Try it and see...

FWIW, I was looking at my sidewalls today and they say "M+S". I think that means Mud and Snow??

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

I have the Terra Grapplers also, 295/70/17. They are fine on pavement, but last winter I drove in snow and ice (moved from so cal to Idaho) and they packed up with snow very quick. I agree with airing down, but the tread pattern doesn't seem to evacuate very well in snow or mud.
Les Schwab Tire stores up here sell the Mountain Cat ET tires which are drilled for studs. Thinking of going with those this time. Anyone had these yet?

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

I ended up leaving mine on last winter and share the feeling that they aren't that great in snow and ice.

In fact they weren't that good in sand either..... In wet mud they seem to perform well.

Not sure if I'll swap back to stock before the snow flies or not this year...

Let some air out of them and get two bags of playsand or concrete to throw in the bed. I do this every winter and throw them away in the spring.

I run em around 30 if it's deep.

I keep some 6" semisolid concrete blocks in the back for winter traction if the snow equipment isn't loaded.

i just expected more from a terra grappler i suppose... like anything else there's a science.

you have to air them down really low in sand... i've learned that

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

I am currently researching tires as I am in need of a set. I was looking at the Nittos but after reading the newest Consumer Reports tests on tires, the Grapplers did not rate very well in any area.
Seems the General Grabber HTS is the highest rated all around tire. It only lists for $105. too!

I'm starting to think that the LT's were a mistake, and I should have opted for P-metrics.
well. first off, the only way you would be making a mistake running LT's is if you DONT use your truck for more than a station vehicle. the ply difference is enough reason to want to run a LT. i have run over- and bent decking screws that would more than likely pierce a standard P metric. you have better sidewall construction & protection, and stronger spinal strength due to additional plies. if your just using your titan as a grocery getter or station car... yea, no reason for the LT's.
secondly, i hated the nitto terra grapplers i got about 22k out of them seeing quick wear even with preventative maintenance and i too did not feel impressed with the snow performance. ( im in long island ny had about 6-10" snow fall per storm last year )
on the other hand i also have run toyo mt LT tires and made them last almost 30k hard miles. these handle better in the snow compared to the terra grapplers surprisingly. i run 33x12.5x18 LT tires ( regardless of brand / style) at 40psi around without a load. when towing a load ex: a car, enclosed trailer etc i run 55psi. if your looking for another LT tire, i would recommend Generals AT2, im very happy with them. very comparable design to the BFG AT KOs. only better performance in my opinion and of course much cheaper.
if your looking for a P metric, my father seems to really like the bridgestone dueler REVOs AT tires. he uses them on his nismo frontier year round.
also i keep 4 75lb bags of sand in teh bed when we have snow conditions. this is a tremendous help for rear traction.

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

I have to disagree about the mud comment. I'm running the Open Country in the 325/60/18 and they have awesome mud performance. I've made it through some soupy stuff with these tires. THey bite well and clear very well too. I've driven these on the dirt, street and put them through their paces. IT is an excellent performing tire. Ask Pops i've but my Qx through its paces. IF i had to buy them again i would in a heart beat. OPEN COUNTRYS ARE AWESOME!

I have to agree that the Grapplers do really well for an A/T tire. Comparing any A/T tire to any M/T just isn't right, that's like comparing A/T against H/T tires, they're an entirely different class. They also did well for me in the little bit of snow and on alot ice in some ice storms we've had, FWIW.

Re: Snow/ice traction Nitto Terra Grappler LT

43-psi. I called Nitto and told them i'm running them on our undersized OEM wheels and they said that shouldn't be any problem if I keep them at 43-psi.
