Here is the deal, I live in North Dakota and the snow can get pretty bad up here (like last year) I will also have a snowplow on this year. I have stock 18" rims now with 285/65/18 All Terrrain T/A's now.. I Have the leveling kit installed as well. I need tires bad. I need something that is great in snow and I can keep on all year round (hunt alot as well). What should I get and where from for the best deal? I would like a little bigger tire (as big as will fit without jacking it up)
Here are the tires I am looking at:
HANKOOK DYNAPRO MT
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
Cooper Discoverer STT
Nitto Trail Grappler --- prolly to expensive for me
Also up for a good set of used tires that someone on here might have upgraded... let me know what you have!!
Definetly like to keep the bill for new ones under $1000
Re: Need winter tires (need to be aggressive!!!) HELP
i live in south dakota have you looked at the cooper zeon LTZ. but i know what you mean about needing a good tire for winter. i have had experience with the toyo AT which is a good tire also know the BFG AT KO is a good tire.
Re: Need winter tires (need to be aggressive!!!) HELP
Thanks Guys... The duratrac does look good and agressive.. I looked at those Zeons and they are nice to but I dont think as aggressive as I need. I got stuc 3 times last year (tires not that great either) and dont want that to happen again.
Also I live in the country and snowplows arent that reliable in my area. Keep the ideas coming guys!!
I currently have the BFG AT KO's but dang are they expensive

The BFG AT are not that great in deep snow, I think you should really look at a MT tire such as the BFG MT, Goodyear MT/R or the Cooper STT. Maybe even the Pro Comp MT as you can sometimes get them 4 for the price of 3 through 4WP.
Re: Need winter tires (need to be aggressive!!!) HELP
I went from the BFG A/T KOs to the Cooper Discoverer STTs. I live in Indiana, so we get our fair share of snow/rain/ice too. So far I've been VERY impressed with the STTs in the winter time. The BFGs got snow packed in them constantly, making traction nonexistent (and very scary at times). The STTs hardly ever got packed with snow, so lost traction is never an issue. For snow, the STTs just keep digging their way through, so it's a very comforting feeling knowing that I'm going to make it. Ice, well, it's better than what you'd expect from a M/T tire. Since the STTs come from the factory with some siping, that helps with the traction. However, if you see lots of ice, I'd suggest getting them siped by your tire installer. But to tell you the truth, I think the STTs are better on the ice than the BFGs ever were (if you can't tell already, I don't/didn't much care for the BFGs). I love my Coopers and would buy them again in a heartbeat. I've got about 15-17,000 miles on them and they hardly show any signs of wear (with PLENTY of tread left).
Again, if you do go with a M/T, BE SURE TO GET THEM SIPED! (if they don't come that way from the factory already).

x2, M/T without siping SUCK on ice and light snow. They work great in the deep stuff, but you'll find they can be rather scary when there's some ice or light snow on the ground.

Aren't the Dura-Tracs pinned for studs?
On ice, studs are said to be best, (but not legal everywhere, and worse on pavement if you're in an area where the snow dosn't stick all winter) ... sipping helps a lot, but on some ice not enough.

Re: Need winter tires (need to be aggressive!!!) HELP
I have a set of Treadwright A/T KO copies with Kedge grip on steel wheels that I'll use for my winter meats. Yes, they are retreads...but the reviews have been stellar, and alot of people on the plow sites swear by them. I'll be the Titan guinea pig and give you all a review later this winter. For $139 a pop, it's a helluva deal for a polw truck tire. FWIW, they measure 33" tall and 9" wide, so it's a decent footprint to cut through snow, but not too wide to float.
