Kill that cracked me up

Loping along, minding my own business last night and I pull up to a red light in the left lane. Alongside on my right a few seconds later pulls up a mid 90's GMC 1500 extended cab that obviously had some exhaust work done (pipes out the back). I'm sure it was the 350 Vortec (not throttle-body injection). The light goes green and the young kid driving it lays into it. The front of my T was about even with the back of his cab when I reacted and punched it to WOT. I take off with a squeal of the tires and proceed to leave this kid looking like he's in reverse with about 2.5 lengths on him by the time I hit 3rd gear. I run it up to about 55 MPH (45 MPH speed limit) and let up. As he gives me the fly-by, I see he has a stupid pair of those truck balls dangling from his hitch receiver. I busted out laughing thinking I just totally neutered this kid's truck. Even better, he got stopped by the next red light and I just pulled up next to him laughing my *** off as he sat there with a smirk and a red face.

Poor kid never knew what hit him. I had just installed the BD Premium tune about an hour earlier and turned up the throttle sensitivity. Would love to see what would've happened if I'd actually launched the T.

K, so maybe I was going a little faster than 55 when I let off.

Re: Kill that cracked me up

Ha ha, good kill!

I'm not surprised that you left him like he was standing still.

If it was an 88-95 model, it wasn't even a vortec. Assuming it had the 5.7 TBI it makes a whopping 210hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque. Even less if it was the 5.0.

The Vortecs were a little better at 255hp and 330 torque (5.7), but still a slug.

My 91 was a slug, and it was a regular cab. I can only imagine his added weight of being ext cab.

I liked the the rugged looks and cheap parts, but the lack of power was one of the main reasons I ditched it.

Significant power gains are not easy on those old trucks. Unless the stock TBI system is ditched for a carb or aftermarket FI system, they are very limited on power gains. If I still had it, I would shoehorn a 502 into it.

But then, the rear end, tranny, u-joints, fuel system, blah blah blah would have to be upgraded. For the cost of doing all this, I decided to get a newer truck instead.

Here's my former 91 K1500.

In stock form, not that fast. The 454 in stock form was a dog by today's standards, making around 230hp. The torque was comparable to ours.

Still, 1/4 mile times bone stock were in the mid to high 15s.

I'd like to have one to hotrod. Wouldn't take much to make one a real terror on the drag strip.

Even better, when he pulled up, roll down your window, put out your hand and tell him "...alright, put them right here..."

I run the 91 oct tune and the Titan is a beast out of the hole with it...
