Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

Man all of those numbers!! Anyone ever race one of the G cars? I'm guessing the G8 is the quickest. Guy across the street has a G6 GT and I thought about asking him to race Friday night. Am I asking for an azz whoopin?

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

I haven't looked up track times for either, but my gut tells me you should be able to handle the G6. As for the G8, that's a different beast. I'd steer clear of smack talking a G8 until you race one for the fun of it. If they corrected the wheelspin and torque steer in those things, I think it will lay down a pretty respectable track time bone stock. Let me look for some numbers.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

First off, my bad. The G8 is rwd. I was thinking fwd like the grand prix. Regardless, some food for thought:

Quote:
The Pontiac launches to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 104 mph.
From what I've seen on the G6 forum that a google search led me to, they are in the mid 15's.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

G6's are slow, you will definitely take one down.

g6 gtp's might be a good race though. I think they run mid 14's.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

A few months ago, I had one one of those G's behind me at a traffic light. When the light turned green, I nailed it to 60 MPH, and I was surprised to see him about 3 car lengths behind me. He pulled along side of me with a big smile and a thumbs up.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

The G6 GTP with the 3.6 is a decent little car. The G6 GXP is a different animal and they have the 5.3 under the hood. G8 with the 3.6 is nothing to worry about but, the G8 GT or GXP will hand your arse over to you in short order. My neighbor has an Impala SS with the 5.3 and I kick his arse all the way to 100 mph quite easily and that's 'cause he spins badly out the hole.

huh?

google search:

"Representing Pontiac's high performance version of the G6 Coupe, the GXP comes standard with a powerful 252 horsepower, 3.6L V6 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with driver shift control, a sport tuned suspension, 18' wheels, dual exhaust and GM's StabiliTrak Dynamic Control System (DCS)."

I think you may be thinking of the Grand Prix GXP (5.3 v8, FWD), the G6 GTP has the 3.9 v6 I think and is a little slower...

The G6 GXP would be really close...around 15sec 1/4 mile or so, but a G8 GT or GXP would get ya. My wife's uncle has the Grand Prix GXP and it's plenty fast enough, probably faster than my Titan I bet....and a friend of mine has the G8 GT, and I know his fastest time so far is 14.2 compared to my 14.7.....still would be fun to mess with em though.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

i would not race any of the G8s, if u want to race just do the regular one, if it has GT(6.0 V8) or GXP(6.2 V8) emblems stay clear unless its for fun, those car are pretty fast

14.2 is his best time in a g8 gt? Dude came to the track with an auto one recently and he was running 13.7's... @ like 103-104.

He came with a dude in a 5.7L GTO who was also running about the exact same times as the g8 gt.

When they left, the gto got out on the highway burnin it up and slid backwards into the ditch rofl.

Re: Pontiac G5, G6 or G8

the G8 GXP is the one with the LS3 in it, they run high 12's to low 13's stock you can tell wich they are since they look different than a 5.3l G8 or the v6 G6 oh a stock titan can take a G6 no problem now once you start playing with the v8 ones you may want mods, as for the G8 GXP stock they have 415hp and 415 ftlb tq and the LS3 responds very well to mods and there are a lot of them for the LS3.
