Agree, not impressed, 4000# truck vs a 8500# truck. Law of weight on Frontier side. Now if that old truck whooped him, that would of been news....

All this is in good fun........

#1. I get my "F's" confused sometimes.

#2. Not impressed either, just amused.

Wish I had a 20 dollar bill for every "F-250, 350, whatever" owner that (out of the blue) acted bad, reved their engine, or talked about how their truck would smoke my Fronty when I had my poor, old, little, slow Frontier.

Just a funny clip, not a statement on truck superiority.

I'm sure if you substituted a much heavier truck.....say.....a Titan maybe, it would have been much closer. Or maybe not........

D vs G

As my redneck friend would say.
Rice burner vs a big bad torque diesel.

The FORD driver probably felt a tiny bump at the end of the race when he ran over the varmint!

Now give me a tow power test and you are talkin.

Dont make the mistake of lumping in all Super Duties with the performance of that old Ford in that video...and I'm not talking about highly modified Super Duties either.

That old truck is like comparing a Datsun 240Z with the Nissan 300ZX...apples and oranges my friend.

Here's a quote from the guy in the Frontier. He knew the guy in the Ford. The whole thread about this race (on a Frontier site) is up at the top of this thread.

"My truck, as dragoon stated, is stock with a JWT pop charger. The truck I raced was an F250 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. This truck is the tow vehicle for Crawford Z Car Service in Nashville during SCCA race weekends. This truck is a HOSS, as Doug has modified it just like he modifies all his Z Cars."

"I have borrowed this truck for a couple of weeks at a time. It is fast, especially when the turbo has time to spool up."

"Our short run was not to the Ford's advantage, so the Frontier took him."

"What a fun weekend!"

FLFINfan,

I'm not doubting that it may have some mods...Could have fooled me from the way that thing performed. He should have been able to power brake and build up his boost in addition to launching in 4x4. I have never heard of a JWT pop charger. Is it a type of supercharger for gas engines? You said it was a diesel right?

All i'm saying is that the newer Turbo Diesels with mild mods are capable of hurting a lot of feelings.

For example a stock 7.3 turbo will put out anywhere between 20-23lbs of boost(thereabouts). A stock 6.0 turbo will put out 27lbs of boost, with a mild chip it will go to 32lbs of boost. Also the 6.0 turbo is Variable Geometry which means the vanes open and close to maximize the burning of fuel and reduce turbo lag. Thats why a 7.3 will produce a lot of black smoke where a 6.0 will not. Torque values are also different.
