Titan vs. Hemi in the making, need advice

Hey guys, I have a Titan Se with the big tow and 2wd (not the 4 door one) and a friend of mine has a 4 door dodge Hemi also 2wd, and he is wanting to race. I'm fairly sure I can take him BUT, what is the best way to do it? I.e. how to launch, manual mode or not? If in manual mode when to shift, Basically im not sure whats the best way to launch the beast, any info would be great, and I'll let you know the outcome and as soon as it "goes down" maybe i'll even get a video!

line up...honk three times and on the end of the 3rd honk you both floor it....also have about a little less than 1 quarter of a tank of gas in there.

Just floor from the get go. G-Tech testing, i've found that leaving it on auto-shift reveals the best times. Have 1/4 tank of gas or less. Take off your spare tire. Make sure your tires are well inflated. Turn off AC

Try power-braking method as the launch. I've power-braked at 2.5k and the launch wasn't too bad. Didn't get too much wheel spin. If you have a digi cam, please shoot the video. I'd love to see the clip. Good luck and keep us posted. Many have raced a Hemi before but there hasn't been too many video clips, that'd be great if you catch it on camera.

The single best thing you can do is find out what rpm gives you the best launch on the road that you'll be racing on. If you get a good launch you will blow him away. If your launch goes poorly it will be close. The quad cabs aren't that fast on the dodges. Most are just running 16.0s or high 15s bone stock. If it is a 1/4 mile it'll be ugly. The shorter the distance the more advantage goes to the dodge. Does he have a towing package? That will give him a 3.91 gear. If he has the stock "daisy petal" wheels (the 20"-ers) then that will slow him down as well.

After that, the usual quick mods help - remove spare and other dead weight, overinflate the front tires, etc. But really, those aren't going to help much (not that noticeable) compared to you just getting a good start.

i installed it with a cast on my right arm (and im right handed) because i tore a ligiment, took me about an hour and twenty mins. BUT! what you need to do is make sure you tighten the bolt for the braceing arm on the intake really really tight, if you dont it will fall off (like mine did) the truck won't even start if that wire that the brace is connected to. I think it is some kind of ground wire or somthing, but whatever it is it's really important... I got stranded in the middle of Mexico at 11 p.m. and I didn't have a bolt so I "borrowed" some wire off a near by barbwire fence and wired it back on, it ran fine. actually... That wire is still on there I'll take a pic and post it if you want more information

I think that a sixteen-year-old like yourself should worry about making it to 18 without dieing (sp) in a car accident. Especially a sixteen-year-old with a truck with 379 lb-ft of torque.
sorry, I had to say that because I'm an old man now (26). Racing at a drag strip would be safer, though.

Hmmm. I thought the whole reason for this war stories forum was to make the " what are crazy racing?" members happy by having these type of questions out of the General discussion forum.
Now these same type of "Your safety is my business" members are being found here. What gives?

you're probably right, my bad. It's just that he just started a thread in the last day or two saying that he's sixteen and needs a job to help pay for gas.
-on top of that it seems like down here in Vegas there is a high school kid killed every other day street racing his Daewoo.

HAHA racing his Daewoo, I think that goes under "I hate this POS so im running it into a wall" and about taking it to the track, it's out of the question. I brought the subject up to my dad thinking, it's better than on the street so whats wrong with it? Well lots of things first off (working for an insurance company he would know) He claims "taking your car/truck/motorcycle to the track OUTRIGHT VOIDS your insurance, should your insurance company find out, they would drop your pollicy right then and there no questions asked. And good luck trying to get insurance elsewhere" so I was like uhh ok dad thats retarted. About those highschool kids that are "street racing" I would hardly call it any form of racing, maybe lets stand on the pedal for around 30 seconds untill we reach 60mph. I rode with a friend of mine in his WRX, with an intake, custom exhaust, headers, BOV, blah blah all this stuff so I was thinkin, yeah it should run 5 seconds to 60. But no it ran a 7.08 with a 5000 rpm launch and I was like uhh My truck runs a 6.83 with 2 people in it and a full tank of gas, your car sucks. O well

The difference is, his car will pass up a few gas stations that your truck won't. Power comes as a price. For the Titan, that price is fuel milage.

The thing you have to remember about his little car is that it is just that.... how much displacement does he have? Likely it's less than half of what the Titan has. So, his car running just over 7's shouldn't sound that bad.

I'll say this.. you shouldn't knock what other people have. I know that when I was in high school, we didn't even live in a $30,000 house, let alone me driving a $30,000 vehicle. You really need to put things in perspective. Be VERY thankful for what you have and never dis on someone else for what they have. Never know.. your parents could be unemployed next month and not long after that, you could be driving a daewoo yourself.

uhh the race track does NOT void your insurance....i wish it did so i wouldnt have to pay the F*ckers. doing a few runs down a strip at full throttle is proabably safter than doing it on some back road.

btw...if you modify your vehicle...it doesnt void your entire warrenty either...only on the part that you modified / if it causes another parts failure (the service dept at the dealer has to prove that) check out a little organization called "SEMA" lol the only mod i'm waiting for is a supercharger....buying little things here and there is really a waste of $.
