Mustang GT...

Just some kid taunting me in a 97'-00' Mustang GT (not sure which year but in that range body style) so I finally gave in a stop and we went for it. I pulled away the whole time and he gave up and stayed several car lengths behind after that (wouldn't even pull up next to me at the next light).

I know I know, it was probably just a garden-variety GT, but he had enough ground effects and a spoiler large enough to suggest otherwise. Anybody have any idea what a standard late 90s Mustange GT puts out so I know if he was just shifting wrong and should have kicked my arse?

He had the V6 with GT badge. No way is this truck keeping anywere close to a GT. This is fast and powerfull for a truck, but nowhere near a muscle car Gt or better

The last bodystyle mustang GT's, 99-04, had the 4.6L with 260hp and 302tq. They are good for a mid to high 14 second 1/4 mile. The bodystyle before that had a little less hp but could run a low 15 second 1/4 mile. Either bodystyle could beat a titan if they are in fact a GT. The v6's have no chance.

There could be a couple of things wrong here:
1st- he could have miss shifted which i doubt,
2nd- he could have the v6 and have v8 badging to go along with the body kit and spoiler,
3rd- he could have an automatic,
or 4th- he could have been intimidated by the titan.

I pick the last one!!

The GT I ran we were side by side the whole time. I wouldn't call that a win for either of us but impressive for a apple (Titan) to hang with the orange (Mustang G.T.) Must have been one of the the low 15 sec 1/4 G.T.'s you are referring too...

Well it was night and with all the ground effects hiding its true identity I just threw a range of years out there that I knew there a few subtle changes in the body style. Anyway, I don't think it was a V6 badged in GT. I figured though that even a standard GT V8 could beat us, so I was curious as to what those have under the hood. No doubt by your answers, it should have been a lot closer than that, or in fact he did only have a V6 (but why go around taunting V8 Titans then??). Thanks for the input!

Yeah, I think from a dead stop it would be very tough, if near impossible, to beat a GT. I'm not questioning whther you whipped this guy or not-not one bit, I believe you, but like someone else posted...Something was odd.

With that said....Last week I was driving on the highway, was just clearing a traffic jam on the highway, and beside me was a 'stang GT. And we had wide open road in front of us. He looked (up and) over at me, downshifted, and took off. So I punched the Titan. From about 35 mph to 75-80, we ran almost neck and neck, but the GT was starting to get a lead. It was defintely an early 90's model, maybe 94 or so.

I really think because we were moving, it helped me. From a stop, it would probably have left me pretty quickly. So, I belive it's possible to hang (somewhat) with some of the GT's. it just depends on how and where you do it!

you're definitely gonna' want to stay away from V-6 Mustangs from now on, though. They're faster than us according to car & driver.

The first 4.6 Mustangs were dogs. If it was an automatic, I can imagine the Titan beating one. They didn't call that generation Cobra the Slowbra for nothing.

By 99, they were much faster. I don't think you'd have a chance, even against an auto. My buddy has a 99 Cobra with 5 speed and there is now way the Titan would stand a chance. The weight and transmission disadvantage is just too big.

AGE,

It wouldn't be the first 6-cylinder, and probably not the last, but...

It shows a span from 14.1 (I'm assuming this is the V-8 version) to 15.5 (I'm assuming this is the V-6 version).

C&D has the SE CC Titan numbers like this...

C/D TEST RESULTS

ACCELERATION (Seconds)
Zero to 30 mph: 2.4
40 mph: 3.6
50 mph: 5.2
60 mph: 6.9
70 mph: 9.2
80 mph: 11.9
90 mph: 15.1
100 mph: 19.6
110 mph: 28.3
Street start, 5–60 mph 7.1
Top-gear acceleration, 30–50 mph: 3.5
50–70 mph: 4.7
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.4 sec @ 91 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 114 mph

So, actually, the V-6 would be about the same as the Titan.

BTW-I really like the look of the new Stang. I think Ford did a good job on it. We'll see how it holds up over time though...

What you said Buzzkill...

No question the 2005's (V8) are bad azz although correct me if I'm wrong I'm presuming the differences in numbers are for the V-6 (7.5, 15.5) and V-8 (5.3, 14.1). If so it looks like the Titan will hang...

C/D-ESTIMATED PERFORMANCE 2005 Mustang GT
Zero to 60 mph 5.3–7.5 sec
Standing 1/4-mile 14.1–15.5 sec
Top speed (governor limited) 118–150 mph

C/D-estimated performance (rear-drive): 2004 Nissan Titan Crew Cab
Zero to 60 mph: 7.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 21.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.5 sec @ 91 mph

I was at the track last month and watch a brand new GT do the quarter mile in 13.9 @100 mph! I was impressed. That's a little faster than C&D lists them.

BTW..Good to see them, I mean YOU, around again Finn.

Whew we...guess that's where Car and Drivers "estimated" thing comes in huh. Maybe the conditions were optimal.

On brisk, cold nights I pulled averages 0 to 60 of 6 flat and 14.6's 1/4 with the G-Tech. http://www.titantalk.com/forums/show...ghlight=G-Tech

Recently at the same place during the day with hot temps I'm pulling 6.5, 15 flat averages. Without getting into the whole is the G-Tech accurate thing...if your skeptical this may help...http://www.caranddriver.com/article....age_numb er=6

http://www.titantalk.com/forums/show...ghlight=G-Tech

the Endurance sure does seem temper mental to changes in weather, altitude...especially with intake and exhaust modifications.

You got to remember that those C&D results are usually pro drivers under ideal conditions. A street race is a street race, there are a lot more factors to consider. I believe you raced a gt and won, good kill by the way. Not too long ago I raced about a 2000 mustang Gt manual in my 94 lexus sc400 auto with magnaflow exhaust. It was neck and neck till about midway 2nd gear then my car stated to pull then we shut down due to traffic. Now i know it wasnt a full race and more could have happened if we went longer but I was def proud of the lex for keeping up and slightly beating a Gt. What im saying is that if the lexus can do it i know the titan can do similar. The lexus and the titan seem about even performance wise.
