Porsche Boxster driver impressed by Titan

Coming home from Philly one night I noticed a car approaching fast way back behind then started tailgating me. I accelerated to get away from the "nut" but not for long. We repeated this scenario for about 5 lights where I take off leaving everyone at the light and before long this "nut" is up my A$$ again but NEVER overtakes me. I'm getting ticked at this point so I slow down to let him pass by and see what his game is and at the next light wait for him side by side.

He waves a friendly smile and asks enthusiastically what I have under the hood. He says: "Your truck hauls a$$ man. Are you supercharged or nitro'ed?"
I smile back and tell him I just have a custom "cat-back" and Volant. Then he proceeds to apologize as he just wanted to see what brand this "good looking pick-up truck" he was about to pass.
WHEW!! He could have blown my doors off with his Porsche Boxter!

If it was pre 99 he wouldn't have blown your doors off. As a matter of fact the Titan would have given him a run for his money. At least 0 to 60.

Technical Data
Engine Type
6 cylinder boxer
Engine Size
2480 cc
Horsepower
204 bhp@6000 rpm
Torque
245 Nm (180 lb.ft)@4500 rpm
Max. Speed
240 km/h (149 mph)
0-60 mph
6.7 sec
Weight
1250 kg (2750 lb)
Price
$30,000

"Still some pure Porsche enthusiasts have been complaining that the 2.5lt engine just wasn't powerful enough, so mid-1999 saw the introduction of the 3.2 liter Boxster S which with 252 hp should silence all doubterst. At the same time the basic 2.5lt. engine was also replaced by a slightly more powerful 2.7lt engine."

Now post 99 would have been a different story for a stock Titan. Non S versions pull 6.1 0 to 60. Given a Titan running around 6.0 to 6.5 0 to 60 average with intake and exhaust mods I wouldn't call that getting your doors blown off.

The Boxster S on the other hand might qualify for "getting your doors blown off."

"The Boxster S commands an extra $9000, but it's money well spent. Displacement for the 24-valve DOHC horizontally opposed six jumps from 2.7 to 3.2 liters, resulting in 250 horsepower at 6250 rpm, compared to 217 in the regular version of the Boxster. Torque gets a healthy boost, from 192 to 225 lb-ft at 4500 rpm. 0-60 time is down from 6.1 to 5.7 seconds."

Anyway it's nice to see some respect from a Porsche driver for the Titan. Titan commands respect.

Wow, great info there Finnattic. This Boxter owner was probably "flooring" it to catch up with me. LOL.

Your 15 sec quarter runs, did you ONLY have the intake and exhaust mods? I'm just curious as I feel my Titan has all that torque and power mostly noticeable after the rear set of cats were replaced with 2 1/2 straight flow resonators. I also have a true dual 2 1/2" mandrel bent custom system

LOL probably so. Yes only intake and exhaust. Your definitely on the right track letting er breathe. Sounds like you have a real nice exhaust system. Man on that note you have one of the most impressive Titan's I've ever seen. Damm nice looking. That surely caught his eye I'm sure as well as the performance. I see your no stranger to mods.

It's notable to mention that as the weather warmed up I'm averaging 15 flat in the 1/4. 6.5 0 to 60. I ran better times in the winter as the links show above. One thing's for sure this baby's temperamental.

Sure would like that programmer as I'm thinking about some Hankook tires - RH06 Ventus ST (Truck & Suv) 285/60VR17 which will hopefully change some performance characteristics and open this thing up more to it's potential. I'm not sure yet due to the fact their about 2.2" smaller in radius. Should make me quicker although not sure about how it would look. Also how my gas mileage would be affected. Smaller diameter means more revs per mile thus engine will be tacking higher at hi-way speeds.

Here's a comparison between the stock 285/70/17 vs. 285/60/17.

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
285/70-17 7.9in 16.4in 32.7in 102.8in 617 0.0%
285/60-17 6.7in 15.2in 30.5in 95.7in 662 -6.9%

It's pretty neat. Shows the difference in sizes as well as breaks down all the specifications.
