Titan vs. Silverado SS?

So the other night I fly by a silverado (cause I was in a hurry). Then we happen to come to a stop light and he comes up next to me. He is looking like he wants to race and creaping up to the line. But I wasn't sure so I didn't take off until I saw him get on it. So he got the jump then I floored it and stayed right with him. I thought it was strange that I couldn't pull past him. Then he stopped and turned around and got on the highway (and of course I had to follow)

It was pretty dark so I couldn't tell till I got up behind him and saw the rectangle exausts and noticed it set a little lower than most and when I pulled by I saw the SS badging????

What was that I thought they were supposed to be bad a$$ It didn't sound bad and it didn't leave me either. If I'd of been ready I might have stomped him??

I guess I overestimated the bow tie SS??? Isn't it like 320 or 340 horse?

Yeah but they are AWD, while giving them more traction, also slows them down a bit. I hear they are nasty with a super-charger though.

American muscle
The Silverado earns its SS credentials the same way the old Chevys did: cubic inches. Under the hood of the '04 model sits a 6-liter V8 that produces 345-hp. at 5,200-rpm and 380-lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000-rpm. Rather than using the normal 325-hp. 6-liter Vortec LQ4 V8 offered by GM, the SS enjoys the high-output LQ9 version that also sees duty in Cadillac Escalades. The 20 extra ponies arrive thanks to higher compression (10.0:1 versus 9.4:1), but aren't without cost; Chevrolet specifies 91-octane premium unleaded fuel for the LQ9 engine, while LQ4 powerplants are content drinking regular grade gas.

Good race...

Those are pretty quick trucks. But leave it to Chevy to make a ss that's obviously slower than either the Lightning or the SRT-10. (And it may not be much faster, if at all, than the HEMI or Titan).

As you can see in this MT comparison, anyway, the SS is faster than the Ram Hemi even though it's 500lbs heavier.

I was coming home from a my girls house at like 3 am and was pouring down rain. I could barely see in front of me. I pull up to a red light and see this ss pull right next to me. When the light turns green he darts off like a rock in a sling shot. What kinda dumbass tries to race somebody in the rain? I did speed up thinkin that I would see the guy spun out off the side of the road into a tree. I have always wondered how fast those things are though

With a programmer, cat-back exhaust, CAI, and 16" wheels off the regular Chevy truck they are running low 14s/high 13s in the quarter mile.

I'm not ashamed to admit I saw a stock Titan CC lose to a stock Chevy SS twice at Richmond Dragway today. (6-19) I believe the SS ran a 15 to the Titans 15.1. Second run was SS 14.9 to Titans 15.3.

Still not bad considering the SS is Chevy's version of a performance specialty truck and the Titan, just a half ton.

Oh and I thought I would add the only Hemi I saw run today was a CC that ran 15.6's. So acording to the numbers, the stock CC Titan vs. the (stock?)CC Hemi = Titan win.

Regular cab hemis dont even pull 14.6. Motor trend or truck trend got a 15.1 out of a regular cab 2wd with 20s.

Im saying reg cab hemis run 14's stock, not quads. if youve ever read how a magazine does its test, its with a full tank of gas and full street trim. a guy over on dodgetruckworld, bone stock ran a 14.6 im just saying in cool weather most single cab hemis will run high 14's, especially the 05's, they seem to be a little faster than the 03's b/c of better computers.

Every standard cab Hemi that I have seen at the dragstrip, runs 14s. The only CC Hemi that I have seen, ran 15.34 on a cool clear night.

Bottom line is no "bone stock" hemi will run a mid 14, sorry it just won't happen. short box, short cab 2wd will nip at 14.9 which is darn good but a far cry from a low-mid 14. I live 15 min. from NE dragway a go often and never seen a stock hemi even get a 14.9 and NE drag is a quick track.

I have seen a stock std cab Hemi go 14.9@89mph. That's here in Houston, but it was in much cooler weather than we're having now.

We have time slips of a single cab work truck hemi running a 14.6. now thats not street trim, thats no spare tire, no tailgate, low tire pressure in the back. but it has been done, also we have hemis running 13.6's and 13.7's with headers, and exhaust cutouts, superchips and a cold air intake, thats not bad either, no nos or supercharger and running wiht stock lightnings.
