BMW 745i Taught A Lesson

So, on the way to work today, some JA was in a new BMW 745i was on his phone going 5 mph under the speed limit on the road to the freeway. Since this is one of my pet peeves, I stayed right on his bumper. When we got the freeway service road stop sign, he looked in the mirror and thought he would “teach” me a lesson and “aggressively” pulled out and hit it. You should have seen the look on his face in the mirror when he looked up at about 70 mph and saw I was still right on his bumper – then I had to turn off. I LOVE MY TITAN!

A very dangerous game you were playing.

The speed limit does not state that everyone is suppose to reach that speed, it is a set limit at which your not suppose to exceed. The driver was legally within his right to drive 5mph below the speed limit if he so wished, but your aggresive attempt to follow close on his bumber needlessly endangered his life and your own.

Ok, Lets say that dont matter to you in the least, lets take a different look at the situation.

Lets say a accident happend in which you were at fault and you totalled his car.

The base price of his car could easily be around $70,000 and with options the price could approach $80000.

If your insurance covered up to $60,000 dollars worth of damage to another persons vehicle you could easily be left with having to pay $20,000 out of pocket to replace his car. This is not to mention any further cost you might accrue if anyone saw your aggresive driving and the driver wished to sue for personal injury.

This can be a terribly costly mistake on your part all due to the fact he wasnt driving 5mph faster than you felt he should have.

I dont like people in front of me distracted on the road by talking on the phone any more than the next guy, but I take for granted there not the safest drivers and give them a wide margin for safety in case something stupid should happen.

I didn’t mean to imply that I was inches away – just close enough to make a point. But thanks for pointing out the intricacies of the insurance business because since I have NEVER been in an at-fault accident I needed to benefit from your apparent vast experience. And I don’t think me driving close to him at 30 mph (limit was 35) endangered anyone’s lives, but then again, knowing the facts before writing a tirade about the virtues of the letter of the speed law doesn’t seem to be a concern of yours.

That Bimmer could smoke a Titan even if it had a flat tire. The driver of the 745i must have not been all the way hammer-down. Especially with a roll-on, unless he had the 'tiptronic' shifting paddles and just didn't drop a gear, he would have blown your doors off.

Some of these war stories are funny. We'll have to assume that not everyone we think we are racing actually has the pedal to the floor when we do.

BTW, the BMW is rated at 0-60 at about 6 sec, the Titan at about 7.5 - I wouldn't call that blowing the doors off, especially if he didn't expect it. And the first time he looked in the mirror he may not have been on it, but when he saw I was still there I know he did and was still able to stay a lot closer than he expected. It was the thought that counted.

i don't know what the torque rating is or the power curve but a friend of mine has one and it 'gets up' but it wouldn't surprise me if both vehicles were going 35 and both floored it if the titan couldn't stay with it.

And besides-this is why the War Stories section was created-not so that people could break the law, if you think that's what he was doing. i don't...

But so people could tell stories (true or not-it's their stories!) without hearing the , that's wrong, illegal, immoral, or whatever speech.

I always love these threads because I get to live vicariously through these stories. They always get ruined because someone feels the need to preach. If I want to get preached to, I’ll tell my war story to my mother!

Yes, I admit I am a SpeedFreak. Please feel free to take a look at where I spend my time when I wish to race. http://www.sgmpracing.com

The war stories are very entertaining and in its own definition was set up for discussing of any races you may have particpated in. The thing about a race is you typically have two people that have chosen to participate in competing against one another. Was his post a race? No, It was someone irritated that the car ahead of him was going 5mph slower than the speed limit and decided to intimidate the driver by following at a unreasonable distance. re: Right on his bumper. Was it a race when the Beemer pulled off? Not that I can tell, He was likly tired of the Titan riding his *** and attempted to distance himself a bit only to find the truck owner chasing after him.

I'm sorry you feel I was preaching at you. If you take nothing else from my post please follow up on your insurace to determine the extent of your coverage before you take to tailgating or should I say racing right on the bumper of a luxury car.

AUUSN,

I'm typically not one to preach, but wished I could prevent someone from making a mistake they would soon not recover from.

In so far as your telling me to Shut the Fcuk Up I guess you had the right to say it. Your serving our Country and I appreciate what your doing for me, and freedom of speach is one of the most basic rights we have. There's no hard feeling and whether it matters to you or not I forgive yah for cursing me.

In so far as my own story

Ive never been in a at fault accident either, but my life was changed due to someone who assumed that distances of less than 4ft from me was a comfortable distance to follow.

I had to brake quickly to avoid a child, and the car behind me couldn’t respond fast enough to keep from hitting me. The impact pushed me towards the girl I had so desperately tried to keep from hitting and as a last act I managed to direct my truck away from the her but it placed me in the path of oncoming traffic. I fought to regain control of my truck but it was far to unsettled and my only thought was attempting to keep from injuring those around me. When all was completed I was left with injuries I will likely suffer from for the rest of my life and a truck which was totaled.

I hate things turned out such as they did, but the girl was uninjured and I wouldn’t wish things any other way.

If you wish to race go ahead, both parties know the risk and are willing to take them. My opinion on the matter is there's never a good enough reason to attempt to influence another driver by following on there bumper. Your taking to many things for granted and using a 4500lb vehicle in doing so

Do as you wish though, Its your dollar.

damnit, now you made feel like a jerk. You're supposed to think the "STFU" graphic is really funny and not be offended. I woudn't say "stfu" to your face, of course, but it's funny in a forum setting (I thought). Anyway, wether I'm in the military or the AARP it still isn't nice. I was making a point and making a joke at the same time.
anyway, you're welcome, I'm glad you appreciate me for serving in the military. Of course I wouldn't do it if it did not have monetary, medical, and security benefits but it's a nice thought in this time of war and general unrest.

Go spend your time in the girlie section of the forum. If you are not here to take down another HEMI, Triton, BMW, or any other vehicle owner, then go spend your your life 1/4 mile at the time at your local strip.

Personally I like a little road rage. And I love the war stories.
