OK...my first War Story with my Titan. Sure, I've had a few people challenge me on occasion, but this was the first one I took seriously.
So, I'm heading home late Sunday eve, around 11:00pm, returning from a long day of fishing the Colo River. I'm bushed, in no mood to race...just wanted to get home and sleep. This guy in a truck a little ways behind me is putting some effort into weaving around a couple cars to get next to me....then we both catch the next signal light. Now I can see what he's got....an '04/'05 2500 Ram QC, 4WD,TD. Oh, great, I'm thinkin'....I'm toast! I wasn't gonna run him, but I really wanted to see how bad a torque monster like that would beat a Titan, and he was probably thinking the same.
So he's windin' up that turbo-diesel, the light goes green, and we're off. I got a slight jump on him and just floored it. We were see-sawing back and forth, and must have been thinking alike, cause we both shut 'em down at 70 mph....enough for about an 1/8 mile run. In the end, he had me by a little more than 1/2 length...I was very surprised, as I'm sure he was too (about the Titan). I thought, this guy's gonna stomp me for at least 2-3 lengths! If we'd run a full
1/4 mi,he probably would have...who knows.
I know he had it floored....there's no mistaking the sound of a TD running wide open. I remember thinking it sounded like I was racing a freakin' 18 wheeler! What was impressive, and certainly speaks to the torquiness(sp) that the Cummins TD is known for, is how his truck would surge, almost lunge forward at every shift change. Very impressive rig. I'm pretty sure he was running stock, but no way to know for sure.
No win for the Titan here; but fun, just the same.
Head (or anyone else)...how bad do these trucks spank you at the track when you're running them on just the motor?

wow I had a very different experience with a f-250 powerstroke TD. I was at the track and waiting in line for my run and the whole time I am lookin a little behind me and to myleft is the f-250 the whole time I could see his passenger laugh everytime I looked their way. so while pullin up to race I was like great the titan is goin down to a ford f-250, well we pull up to the light and on green we go and right out of the whole my confidence drops like my foot on the gas he had me form the line but at about 1/4 way down the track or so I catch up and at about half way I pull on him and by the time its done I beat him by a good second or so.
You lost to a Cummings diesel? The new cummings Crew Cab 4x4 1/4 mile is rated at 16.9, 0-60 mph is 8.7 to 8.9 seconds, you better check your truck at the dealer. Seems he was modded, perhaps a chip. Are you sure you floored it? The Titan is rated at 15.3 1/4 mile or maybe a little faster for the KC model, 0-60 mph 6.9 to 7.4 seconds so what gives

coulda been several things..chip, cranked boost on the turbo, after market turbo, etc..
Like I said, no idea what mods he may or may not of had. Plus, I'm at 5,400', so a TC'd motor has more of an advantage than N/A.....more so than at sea level. Also, we only ran about 1/8 mile, so no telling what the outcome would be in the 1/4.....I'm thinking he'd of beat me good, but I'd only be speculating.

There's nothing wrong with my truck, chepdog....and yes I had the pedal mashed. At this elev, I usually run low 8's in my 0-60 runs, but I'm giving up a lot of hp from sea level. A diesel only needs to run about 2.5-3 psi boost to make up for that altitude loss here, so if he's running 7, 8 or ?....then he's got a huge advantage.

First, cuz' you got a Titan, so the tie goes to the Titan in my book.
Second, I've driven those, and I'm not doubting that it was close,as you say, but I really don't think they're a match for the Titan, stock, of course.
The redline on those things is like 3,000rpms. So they make a lot of power quick, but it doesn't feel to me like it's translating to speed.
Either way, we're proud of ya!!!

Ok hold on i just noticed that hes high up in the mountains, how high? thin air kills a gas engine, and a turboed engine its the opposite, so my fault for not reading correct, my F250 diesel 6.0 liter runs wonders in the sierra about 6,000 feet up, i notice that all the gas engine trucks up there struggle with their trailers and passing power, im ok up hill with my 30 foot fifth wheel two slide outs goinf at 70 mph at a 6% grade, but youre right he probably was stock.
Man, the bigbend national park in texas ranges from 1, 850' to 7, 835'. I think i should test my truck there. Talk about reaking havok on an auto.

Depends on the truck. Win some lose some. Anymore, if I suspect major mods I spray them and haven't lost yet but I have seen a few run that it really wouldn't matter what I brought.

Speaking of Diesel trucks, we just had a diesel race a couple of weeks ago at our track. Times ranged from 13's up to 17's. Most of the very fast ones were dodges, there was a new Ford that was raucous sounding and it was 4wheel drive, it looked like the power was causing severe tow-in during his pass, but it was only a low 14.
the fastest GM was a mid 14. Forgive me but I don't know the models anymore, I stopped paying attention a few years ago.
It was cool seeing fast diesel trucks!
There's a guy up around Sears Point in Ca. that has flames painted on the front of his Dodge dually, his is in the mid twelves and he drives it daily.

Yeah, I'd say diesels have come a long way....that's for sure. Used to never think of a diesel running those kind of times...but just look at 'em now....amazing. With diesel pioneers like Gale Banks, who knows what we'll see in the next few years. And shoot....they can run on freakin' veggie oil...lol!
