Titan Clobbered Tundra

A few months back while driving at night in the middle lane of a 3 lane Hwy..There it was. Up in the left lane was a brand spanking new, shiney white Toyota Tundra with all the bells and whistles. While being egged on by my 3 younger male passangers, I began to close ground. When along side of the Tundra I would gun that Gibson Exhaust then slow down then gun it etc. trying to entice my prey. Suddenly, while both vehicles were even and to my amazement the Tundra gunned it while we were doing about 70 MPH. I did the same nano seconds later. We were neck in neck and the Tundra just momentarily edged slightly ahead. I suddenly wished I did not have my 3 passangers and personal gear stacked in the bed. But the extra weight did not matter, I began to overtake and pull stedily away from my now victim. The event lasted about a 1/4 of a mile and the Tundra eventually slowed up and moved on over to the right lane in utter defeat. I slowed as the estatic passangers gave a friendly wave and one was received in return. The passangers were lectured on the overall stupidity of stunts but reminded it was done in a controlled atmosphere and It would not be a big deal as long as MOM DID NOT KNOW! Eventually one of them cracked like an egg and while being questioned virtually under spotlight and rubber hose, I, the Spin Dr. trivialized the matter, never to be bought up again.

Let's not get too pompous, Tundra owners have a $3,800 supercharger available.

Talking

By no means sir, this guy just bought it and talking sh!t about Titans doesn't have what it takes to pull up next to a tundra. Personally, I think I can dust his a$$ but my wife doesn't like the idea of racing.

I was wondering what times they run with the SC. I pulled up along side one the other night. A KC. It had a boost gage and that distinctive sound of "forced induction." He didn't seem to want none but I did get some revs out of him while cruising. We punched it from a roll about 40 mph and he initially got the jump but then I stayed right with him until 60 mph.

Some of the new Tundras have pulled Titans.Just like some Titans pulled Hemis.....but to answer, the Tundras that run turbo average from 13's-14's.SC Tundras are 14's-15's.But them are the 1st gen.The 05's with 5 speed tranny hasn't found a boost friendly company yet so it's all in the driver.

I'm pertty sure a stock 2005 Toyota Tundra with VVT-i to boost horsepower from 240 to 282, and torque from 315 pound-feet to 325 will not out perform a stock Titan. Enough of the magazine comparisons. I witnessed and filmed a stock CC 4x4 Titan run 15.1 at the strip yesterday. Now I'm not sure but I believe a Tundra either weighs the same or more than a Titan with HP and torque being more on the Titan of course at the underated IMO 305 HP and 379 torque.

When I had my 2001 Tundra with TRD headers and exhaust using a performance meter I consistantly got 8 to 8.5's 0 to 60 and 16 to 16.5's in the 1/4.
With the same meter at the same place with my Titan I consistantly get 6 to 6.5's 0 to 60 and 14.6 to 15.1 in the 1/4.

I even have a vid of a Tundra breaking into the high 13's in the 1/4 with SC, stall converter and other mods.

S/C'ed Tundra's are not that much faster than the Titan. Maybe 1-2 tenths quicker at the most. Of course, we're comparing the Titan to the older S/C'ed Tundra's with the 245hp I-Force V8.

The 282hp '05 Tundra's don't have a S/C option yet. It's not the 5sp trannies that are the problem, it's the VVT-I. For some reason, the currently available supercharger won't work on the newer VVT-I engines. The 210hp 1MZFE V6 with VVT-I in the '03+ Camry's are the same way. No supercharger available for those either.

Cool...It'll be interesting if the Titan will offer the VVT technology in the future.

I had a little fun with a S/C'ed Tundra the other night. We both punched it at 40 to 60. He lurched forward a little on me than I stuck right with him until we let off.
