silverado SS gets shut down by TITAN

I was crusin about 70 on i80 and i kinda switch lanes fast and I see a silverado 2 cars behind me and then pulls really hard to get next to me and when i see him Pull i startin gunnin it and then a little down the way we were side by side we both hit it by time i know it im at 120 and he is tryin his hardest to get close to my bumper you just couldnt hang. I had him for a Crew Cab titan and a 1/2 lol.

Verdict:
**winner**
Smoke Titan
4x2 Crewcab
No mods

Victim
Bright RED
Ext Cab silverado SS <----gotta admit its a nice lookin truck though but doesnt live up to the SS part (in stock form i guess?)

I wonder if it's the AWD that slows them down at high speeds? They are pretty quick off the line with that AWD though. Nice victory!

If I understand your story correctly it makes good sense why the Silverado didnt beat you.

You were already doing 70mph when you saw the SS working his way through traffic.
When the SS attempts to get next to you your accelerating past70mph and you only later line up at a higher speed. (80-85mph?)

At this speed you are now next to each other and attempt to make a run .

The Silverado is speed limited to 109mph which is lower than our own speed limiter. Basically all you had to do was accelerate 25mph past the speed you were currently running before his speed limiter kicked in and shut his speed down.

I am a bit curious though as I've often heard our trucks are limited to 115mph, though your story sounds like you were running up to and possibly past 120.

Specs on the SS
ACCELERATION (Seconds)
Zero to 30 mph: 1.9
40 mph: 3.0
50 mph: 4.6
60 mph: 6.3
70 mph: 8.3
80 mph: 10.7
90 mph: 14.8
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.8
Top-gear acceleration, 30-50 mph: 3.4
50-70 mph: 4.3
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.8 sec @ 90 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 109 mph

Strange that the 5-60 mph is slower than the 0-60 mph.

From a stop you can hold your brake and raise your rpms to a point where your engine is making more power than it would if your in first gear and moving along at 5mph

I think we all find it mildly entertaining that you had fun on the highway. However, I have to agree with the other fella - you were already running at a very high speed. That alone had you leading before a true race began. What I mean is, the scenario would probably be much different if you were both lined up and starting from zero. From a dead start I really dont think the Titan stands a chance. Even if it did, the SS is changing to a RWD only truck in 2006. I would not line my Titan up against the 345 HP Vortec. However, I will line up my 305HP Titan with my 295HP Z71...if I could only convince the wife to race the Titan.

I think many people will agree that, although you technically stayed in front of him. You were in front of him the entire time.

14.8 in the 1/4...that's not that fast.

Leave it up to Chevy to build a 'performance truck' considerably slower than Dodge and/or Ford.

And really, a few mods on the Titan and it'll run below 15...Oh well...

Re: silverado SS gets shut down by TITAN

Well, AWD truck is out for the SS now and RWD is new cuz its less weight. Edmunds did a couple match ups for the AWD and RWD and the RWD is .5 quicker...given the fact there is less weight. AWD does help on turns though. About the race...I had Civics pulling crap like that on me and my limiter would hit, then they would just past me up...thinking they won. A real race...keep it 0-90. But hey...you defined SS for that kill....Sluggish and SLOW. Keep it up.
