On my way home from a concert last Saturday I happened upon a Chevy Silverado 1/2 Ton Single cab with straight-back dual exhaust. My friend, in his Hyundai Sante Fe, was in front of me in the right-hand lane and the Chevy was in the left-hand lane at the red light.
When the light turned green the Chevy took-off, squeeling his tires and flooring it off the line. I sped-up in an attempt to catch the Chevy, easily passing my friends Sante Fe, despite the constant protesting of wife. My wife is always saying "You think everyone wants to race you, he wasn't racing."
Luckily the light turned red up ahead and I would get my chance to take this kid off the line.
I could hear him powerbraking at the light... As soon as the light turned green I got the jump and by 45mph I was about a truck length ahead. By 80 mph I was about 2 1/2 truck lengths ahead.
I put the brakes on at 80 mph and about 3 secs later the Chevy did what I like to call a "Ricer fly-by."

Good race, despite your stock, are you CC or KC? Those chevy's run a low to flat 16 sec. 1/4, im not sure what year it was but im thinking it was a brand new one considering the employee discount.
I was surprised to see a new Silverado SS run only a 16.92 ET at Bandimere last Wed. He had dual exh, not sure about anything else. My truck was running 16.3's that night.

Nice kill.
I suspect that this 1/2 chevy was one with the 4.3L V6 if you beat it by 2 1/2 truck lenghts by 80 mph. The last time I went to the track I talked to a guy with a reg cab GMC 1/2 with a 5.3L. The truck was completely stock, only had 5600 miles on it. First time down the 1/4 he went 15.1 @ 91 and second time went 15.0 @ 92. So if it was one of the v8 chevy trucks it should have been a much closer race.
If I did that with my wife in the truck, I would still be getting an ear full about it. I took her for a ride once in a street car that runs high 12 sec 1/4 miles and she almost had a heart attack. My wife doesn't like speed/acceleration at all.
My wife would have continued to read her romance novel, the key is to drive like you stole it all the time.

I don't think the Chevy single cab would be running 15.1 even with the 5.3L engine unless he has some kind of extensive mods. I owned a Chevy with the 5.3L (327 cid) and it was far less peppier and slower than my Titan is now and it is a crew cab. I am with you that 2.5 truck lengths at 80 mph is a good bit, but maybe the kid didn't know what in the world he was doing. I know my truck, off the line, was slow to get going. Once it got rolling, it would accelerate pretty good but nothing compared to the acceleration of the Titan. The Silverado SS's aren't turning in times that good I don't believe. The last time I went to the track in Eunice, LA, the fastest time for the SS that was there was just a little better than my run for the night where I posted a 15.5 1/4 mile @ 87 mph. I think the SS's run was a 15.3. I doubt if the regular cab truck even with the 5.3L could top the SS.
BTW, nice kill.

KC 4X2 with Airbox mod.
I'm not sure what year (Newest bodystyle). He had the Nevada Firefighter License plates with a mean sounding dual exhaust (for any Las Vegas Titan owners that may have seen the truck.)
It sounded like a V8 to me, but maybe the exhaust made it sound like a V8.
His reaction time off the line at the green light was pretty poor, which could have accounted for the 2 1/2 truck length at 80mph.

I agree about the single cab STOCK running a 15.1. Those 5.3's are somewhat of a slug. He, like some, probably had some mods, but chose to say it was stock anyway.
Nice Kill!!!
BTW-I have a friend who lives near Vegas who just bought a 2500 Silverado, and he thinks it can beat anything, including a Titan. So if you happen to line up next to a white stripped down version of a new 2500 with an eager driver in it, put one on him, and I mean a GOOD ONE!!
Then send me your gas bill for the race, it'll be worth the $$$ to know he got beat!

Nice kill.......but give thought to street racing when the person you love most is put at risk. There's no way I would race anyone with my wife in the car. It's just not a smart idea. Yes it is very tempting when these Dodge Ram guys rev their engine at me at a stoplight. If the wife is with me, no race. If she's not, it's on. There's just too many things that can go wrong in street racing.

Let's look at power to weight ratio here expressed in pounds per HP
Reg Cab Chevy 2wd 5.3L Weight is 4211 HP is 295 which is 14.27lbs/hp
Silverado SS Weight is 5192 HP is 345 which is 15.0lbs/hp
Nissan Titan XE 2WD Weight is 4835 HP is 305 which is 15.85lbs/hp
As you can see the Reg Cab chevy has a better power to weight ratio than the silverado SS and the lightest Titan available.
I've also spent time checking out many calculators on the internet that figures out approx 1/4 mile times based on weight and horsepower and found what I posted about the guy with the STOCK reg cab truck ran at the track and it the results were on the money. I think The Head knows alot about the Chevy Trucks maybe he could Chime in here and add his $.02.
So either the Reg Cab Chevy didn't have the 5.3L or the driver couldn't drive. Nobody will know unless the owner of the Chevy chimes in.
One last thing, I was over at the Track in Evadale watching a few races and meet some guys that were from Louisiana that run at the track in Eunice. They were talking about some Race called Battle on the Bayou. Do you know when that is, they told me they have some fast rides out there and that it is a fun event. I was thinking about going.
There should be an * next to the Titan's HP claims.
I think we all know that it's underrated. So do those numbers with the Titan at 325 or 330 and see what they come out as. Not too mention, torque plays an important part, and one that hasn't been discussed here.
Besides, you can't always go by numbers, you gotta get out and run'em, because if that were the case, explain why some Titans (CC) are beating some of the (QC) Hemi Rams, which have 40 more hp.

I've ran with 3 chevys here in town. Only beat two of them. The third beat me, only because my wife was with me.
At the stop light me and the chevy extended cab lowered (nice looking truck) looked at each other around me wife, waiting for the light and grabbing the wheel, no words, no radios, only the beautiful sound of two rumbling trucks waiting for the green light. Only to be broken by my wifes wonderful voice "DON'T even THINK about it" . No reply from myself, only a small smerk on my face as I glance at the chevy with the same small smerk on him face. A moment later the light was green and we were off. Then my engine kill switch was hit (wifes hand across my forearm) , as I watch the chevy pull ahead and I hung my head in shame . Got to the next light as I pulled up slowly to the line looked over to my competitor. We both shrugged our shoulders, giggled, and my wife says "you guys will never grow up"... You know...I think she right...

Just like you said "Some" There is alot of factor you can argue about this. It still goes back to HP to Weight Ratio. This is what drag racers have been looking at for years. I visit the tracks regularly and have seen Titans, Dodges, Fords, and Chevys run. I've seen each one of these trucks put down horrible numbers and put down great numbers. Most of the time the horrible numbers come from people that can't drive or days when the DA is really really bad.
Also, numbers I posted above were flywheel HP. It neglects parasitic loss through transmission, driveshaft, and rear axle. So in the case of the Silverado SS there is increased driveline loss and increased rolling resistance of the a.w.d. Rolling resistance also increase with weight.
I like my Titan but the fact of the matter is put the lightest stock titan against the Reg Cab 2wd 5.3L Chevy with experienced drivers in each and My money would be on the Chevy. This goes for the same with the Titan against a Reg Cab Hemi my money would be on the Hemi. Now if you want to talk about stock crew cab Titans agains Stock Crew Cab Hemi or Chevy i'd bet on the Titan.
