345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
It looks like Chevy is playing the hp game by introducing the 345hp 6.0L (SS motor) on regular Silverado 1/2 ton extended cabs with the "LT" package. Also, they've upgraded the Duramax diesel to 360hp/650tq.
Has anyone had a chance to run against either one of these yet in their Titan?
The 345hp/380tq Vortec "Max" 6.0L, now available for Silverado "LT" extended cabs, should be about equal in performance to the Titan. I'm assuming this because the 2wd Silverado SS is usually a few tenths faster in the 1/4 mile. However, I think the SS comes with a 3.5" tuned exhaust system which helps it a little.
As for diesel power, the upgraded Duramax sounds pretty stout at least on paper. I think the old 310hp/605tq Duramax diesel's ran low 16's at best bone stock depending on model. However, the '06's with 50 more hp/tq should now be in the high 15's which is approaching Titan performance numbers. Any comments?

The diesel is in a 3/4 ton truck. About 6500 lbs. It will be quick, but that weight is a killer. He'll not overcome spotting you over a thousand pounds in weight if he is stock.
The 6.0 354 bhp 1500 Silverado will be just about a dead even match for the Titan. It's still mated to a four speed auto, and still does not have the low gearing we get from having the equivalent of 4.10 gearing in our lower three gears. Those are two strikes against the high output engine. He'll probably be wearing 20 inch rims too, which will hurt him some.
I've run Denalis and Escalades with that 6.0 engine. My Armada runs pretty consistent 14.8's to 15.1's depending on temperature and humidity. No mods of any kind except the "airbox mod" and a K&N drop-in and synthetic fluids in the engine and both diffs.
Against the 3 or 4 6.0 GM SUV's I've run, here is what I see: Our gearing helps a great deal off the line. I pull away coming off the line. In the midrange, the GM tries to close the gap some and then I pull away on the top end.
Typically by 90-95 mph I am holding a 2-3 length lead. That's about 2 tenths of a second difference or thereabouts.
I would expect a Titan/6.0 1500 Silverado to be similar.

I wouldn't worry about the DuraMaxs: I would take an import over a Silverado weather it had gas or diesel in it. Without trying to sound sexist.. I have to agree with one of my customers; GM builds the thier trucks to cater to soccer moms; and not to a truck market.
Americans tend to want to ask things of our trucks the engineers could never have imagined. I doubt any engineer at Chrysler ever really considered what would happen if a Dakota was asked to carry over 3000# in the bed; or tow 8000-9000# with a 2.5L.
Re: 345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
The 6.0L SS is a pretty fast ride. I have heard of
magazine reviews that rate it at 14.9 seconds.
They are quite a bit lighter than the SUV models
with the same engine. The new 06 SS is weight
rated somewhere around 4660lbs. For being a
4 dr. vehicle that is light! Couple that with AWD and you are
talking about some neck snapping hole shots. I
spend at lot of time at silveradoss.com and their are
some fast trucks. One of the fastest (2bseen) I
believe on NX he is running in the 11's. And N/A
he is in the 12's. If you look at his list of mods though
you will see why.

I also here the 6.0L will be available in the reg cabs also...
With the huge aftermarket these trucks have, they will be a force to be reckoned with..
Swapping motors is not easy work, and I guess I'm odd in the fact that I can't see doing all that work and spending all that money to make the truck ALMOST fast as a stock Titan or stock HEMI? Why not just buy the Chevy SS, which already has the 345hp motor. Or put on a turbo, or blower, since the aftermarket is there.
I still think once a decent aftermarket for the Titan gets bigger, the balance will shift. The Endurance is just begging to be opened up and let loose. Just imagine a Titan with cams, (notice I said, CAMS-plural) exhaust, CAI, and a decent programmer....WOW or...OR...a turbo, programmer and exhaust!!

I agree, not easy work...but numerous people have done it...however, the ones doing it are true truck enthusiasts...and a motor swap is not all that gets done..check out performancetrucks.net...
take a reg cab chevy with a 5.3...good for 15.0 sec 1/4 bone stock...now swap for a 6.0...now good for a 14.5. add CAI, exhaust, custom tune, and a converter (and some good tires) and you have a 13.5 sec truck...
The SS is an idea, but a lot of extra money for all the extra bells and whistles...
Re: 345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
How fast is the avalanche with the best motor option? I am not one to race anybody. I've only been in one race with my titan and that was with a newer f150. This guy in an avalanche was tail gating the crap outta me yesterday. I was going to the turning lane and was slowing to about 30 mph. I swear when he floored it past me I heard his wheels squeel a little bit.
Re: 345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
IF you raced an Avalanche, stock, I dont' think you'd have a problem. The 1500's are powered by the 5.3L, and the HD's are powered by the 6.0L, I believe. Add in their perspective vehicles, aren't that quick.
