Re: 345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
thats what I thought. i really think that this guy really wanted to race. he was tail gating the crap outta me and when i got into the turning lane he slowed down next to me and than floored it. I still hate the way the chevys look but wouldn't mind the gmc truck.

They react really well to basic mods, but a slightly modded avalanche still isn't much of a threat...

I still think once a decent aftermarket for the Titan gets bigger, the balance will shift. The Endurance is just begging to be opened up and let loose. Just imagine a Titan with cams, (notice I said, CAMS-plural) exhaust, CAI, and a decent programmer....WOW or...OR...a turbo, programmer and exhaust!!
Um....the 6.0L swap put me to a 12.50@106mph, and it took about a day to do the swap. Also spent less money on engine/bolt-ons/built tranny than what a brand new supercharger would have cost me. I did hate spending all of that time and money to make the truck ALMOST fast as a stock TITAN or stock HEMI though!!!! Best 1/8th to date is a 7.40@92 with a crappy 1.94 60ft. Hope to see some of you at the tracks!!!!

So, either your sig is wrong, or your post is. Do you have a 4.8L or a 6.0L? And what mods does your 4.8L or 6.0L have? Because EITHER ONE STOCK WOULD LOSE TO A TITAN! So, re-read my post. I said, STOCK. If you're talking modded, which you're truck would ahve to be-severaly modded to make it under 14 seconds, then talk modded.

a stock 6.0L in a reg cab chevy/GMC will leave us looking at tail lights..
and it doesn't have to be severely modded...6.0L, intake, exhuast, custom tune, and a converter will get you into the 13's easy..
Re: 345hp 6.0L Vortec Max and the 360hp Duramax. Faster than Titan??
Then, you must be talking a stripped down 2WD version, because the 6.0L is what's in the AWD SS, and they're only running 14.8's or so in the 1/4. Not exactly burning things up. I know they're ext cab AWD, but how much weight is that really adding.
I guess the other thing is, what's your def. of heavily modded compared to mine.
I guess what I'm saying, in the end, I'm not impressed by Chevy's. Find a fast Chevy, and it'll be modded-PERIOD.

The 2005 SS AWD had a weight of 5100-5200lbs.. the reg cabs with 4.8L weigh in a little over 4600 lbs..that's a big difference..even with swapping the bigger motor there is still a big weight difference.
I guess I don't consider a few bolt ons and a tune heavily modded..
I guess we would have to clarify what you consider "fast"....a stock titan is not "fast"..

I agree when you compare ext cab vs ext cab or CC vs CC...
But the SS will put a whoopin on a stock titan and a reg cab 5.3 would give a titan a run for it's money..
I just think credit should be given where it is due. The 6.0L in an ext cab 2wd chevy/gmc will be a strong running stock truck that will be a force to reckoned with...and with the mods already available, we will be that much further behind..

I am not knocking you, just making a point..
Agreed-The SS is quicker, but not all that much. If that's Chevy's best performace truck, they're in trouble. And you're probably right about the 6.0L in the extended cab version. It's probably quicker than the SS, if it can get some decent traction. So I agree with you there.
But how many of those will be out there-1 in 5,000, maybe. Every Titan is a potent truck, stock. It doesn't have to be modded to beat any baseline truck. It doesn't have to be modded to beat the 5.3 ext, the 5.7 Hemi QC, the F-150. It's already there. So, I guess my point is, the Titan, as it sits, it's quicker than any baseline truck, quicker than most other trucks. But since there's not a big aftermarket yet, we're really behind overall. But good things are coming, and it'll take more time.
Peace!!!

Hey, all I did was answer your questions. You asked why someone would go through "all the trouble", and I informed you that it took all of a day to do the swap. No specialty items in a garage with a cherry picker. You also ask about the cost as opposed to going with a turbo, supercharger, or just getting an SS. My truck was paid for, I bought the 02 6.0L with 5,000 miles for $950. I could have simply dropped it in and been done with it, but I chose to take use of the vast assortment of aftermarket products....compliments of the ls1. I did a cam swap, headwork, converter, built tranny, a little more gear, all of my boltons, and a good tune for less than what a new radix supercharger would have cost, let alone a new SS. I promise I will destroy a stock 5.3L with a Magnacharger and a silverado ss. I'm still on a fairly conservative tune running 12.50s on the motor, but I do have a 150 shot sitting there at the push of a button(for the occational fbody). I have not, however, found a set of DOT drag radials that will keep the truck planted in the 60ft.
Let's not make this a stock for stock arguement please.Stock trucks are for driving back and forth to the grocery store to pick up beer and picking up the kids from daycare, not racing....

i dis agree. if you guys would push your truck to it max than im sure that i they would be seeing the tails.yes i maybe an a$$hole but if you just push the truck to its max than you would see that we can take it.and are trucks can take a SS.i took one for a ride last night,i walked him up and down the blvd.

Translated: I do not agree. If you fellow Titan members would push your trucks to the maximum, I'm sure that the scsb Chevy trucks with a stock 6.0L would see our taillights. Yes, I might be a mean person, but if you push the Titan to the max, as I said previously, you would see that we can take the Chevy. By the way, our trucks can take a Silverado SS as well. I raced one last night, and I beat him by a great deal.

Good observation. Cams, indeed. Actually there are FOUR of those suckers in a beautiful DOHC layout with very high flow heads. Expensive to do but a tuner's dream. The intake manifold is maximized for torqued, but a replacement tuned for horsepower would be a consideration.
Don't forget that our engine is a truck engine. It was based on the Infiniti 4.5L V-8 car engine, but substantially modified to emphasize torque at expense of horsepower. But the 4.5 has variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves. Look to see that come over to the Endurance engine soon.
Then a programmer/tuner chip that can optimize hotter cams and variable valve timing can make some magical things happen with this very advanced engine design. I don't see OHV engines being able to match the power gains. That's why NASCAR makes everyone stay with pushrods and carburetors and why CART and Formula 1 engines produce insane amounts of power from small displacement.

Guys...Something you have to remember about the SS is that it is AWD, comes on 20's, and is much heavier than its less expensive ext cab rwd 1500. I have seen SS's run 14.8-15.0 stock, now put that same power into a lighter truck with less drivetrain loss, and you are looking at 14.6-14.7. Now I am new on this site and dont know how fast you guys have the titans running, but that is going to be tough to beat...Tough for the hemi guys as well. I am very jealous of chevy owners because of their wide variety of aftermarket products, but until the same products are available for the Hemi's and Titans, I think we are always going to be second best.
