Hilo Outlaws

Just wen't to the strip for the first time in my truck. All in all the 2 hour drive for only 2 runs was worth it, I had a blast! The weather was really sh!tty though, Hawaii has had about 3 different storm systems for the past 3 weeks or so and Big Island has been raining for the past week so I know the humidity was a big factor. Temps were around 73 Deg. 88% humidity. I only got to make 2 runs before it rained out and I think that the track was slippery as soap. Both runs were made after a 2 hour drive to Hilo with no cool down period at all. Runs were made in full street trim minus bed extender and spare. I was so ecited to race I forgot to lower my tire pressure and fold in my mirrors.

First run I raced a crx, I was in 2wd and did a big burnout then staged. Launched on the last amber and burned out the whole 1st gear and kept burning out into 2nd, the truck got sidewards on me bigtime and I almost kissed the wall. To say I had no traction would be an understatement,it was going side to side and had to let off the throttle just to get my truck straight. By that time the crx was gone.

Next run was against a KC Titan with true dualls. Really cool guy, he said he's the only one with true dualls on the island and he had them custom made. He said he ran a 16.1 with no traction and a 15.5 with good traction earlier that night.

He took the spectator lane and I took tower lane. I was too hard on the brake and only did a little "chirp". I wanted to do a big burnout but said F it,I needed enough time to set my G-tech up and put it in 4hi for the run. We both lined up and I must have been spazing at the lights cause by the time I launched the last amber was going out. Out of the whole my truck didn't even spin at all it just launched hard and I was gone, the other Titan was burning out and never stood a chance. I could not tell where the end of the track was because the first run was an 1/8th mile and they had a light at the finish. This was a 1/4 mile and there was no light at the finish, instead there was a marker and I think I let off before I passed it, but I don't know for sure. I know when I let off I was only going 90mph and though omfg I let off too soon. I'll try and get the timeslip posted but I gotta find where my daughter put the sim card for the camera I can't dl to the computer with out it. I'm in the left lane.

-------------Left Lane------------------------Right Lane------------------

E.T.-----15.205------------------------------This lane was reading 1/4 mile

--------WIN<1st>---------------------------------------------------------

This was my only sucessfull run of the night and after a 2hr drive with no cool down, forgetting to fold in mirrors, over inflated tires, and 73 deg. 88% humidity temps, and having to run in 4 hi just to get traction a 15.20 still kinda disappointed me. I really think I can hit the 14.9 though if I can get good traction, good temps, and not forget to fold my mirrors in and adjust my tire pressure. I'm going to the track again this Sunday if the weather is good. I'm going to try and go 36psi in front tires and 28psi in rear tires for a few 2wd runs, and 28 psi all 4 tires for a few 4 hi runs and see what I can do. If I can hit the 14.9 I'm gonna buy the Mossy headers while I wait for more F/I stuff to come out.

Re: Hilo Outlaws

So you ran the 1/4 in 4Hi, did you shut it off after you got going or did you leave it on the whole time? I thought that exceeding 60mph in 4hi was hard on the t-case..... Nice runs though

Re: Hilo Outlaws

I left it in 4hi the whole run. I dunno if it's bad for my transfer case or not lol. I coulda sworn there was a few peeps here who did the same thing and it was ok. Maybe someone who has run it in 4hi also can chime in. I tell you what it sure does give a damn good hole shot!

Re: Hilo Outlaws

I think the temp hurts more than the humidity.
The humidity for all my cold weather Gtech
runs was between 75 and 85%. Not saying
that humidity is no factor. Just not as much
as temp. It is usually windy in Hawaii from
what I have been told. What was the wind
conditions? Also, how did your Gtech compare
to your track times?

Re: Hilo Outlaws

Double-checked the back of my visor, it said that shifting from 2wd to 4hi must be done below 60mph, so I guess leaving it in 4hi for a 1/4 race should be ok from time to time, since you're not making any turns on dry pavement. Hmm, I'll have to try that now.....

Re: Hilo Outlaws

Yeah from going sidewards burning out all of 1st and most of 2nd to complete traction sure grip hole shot. That was the difference between 2wd and 4hi Sat. night. I did my best 60ft ever but I think all the other factors resulted in a slower time of 15.20. Not to mention that was pretty much my only run. Almost got to go against the KC Titan again, he was going to go 4hi also but it started to rain again and the track shut down.

Hope this sunday has some better weather I really want that 14.9.
