Titan vs Deer

I would not classify this as a race but more along the lines of a game of chicken. I am not sure if there was a clear winner in this game because the deer is road kill and my bumper is crushed. I hit her dead center on the middle chrome and dented the crap out it. The front bumper assembly was pushed down and back. Fortunately the air bags did not deploy because I was doing 70 mph (which brings up the question of why did they not?). None of the upper grill was touched or the lower painted bumper covers on the sides. I think the damage would have been worse if I did not have the two inch PRG lift and larger tires to raise the front end. Maybe Greg should market the lift as a safety feature. I have seen worse damage on cars.

Glad to read you're alright. Now to the important question. How did her tenderloins taste?

Re: Titan vs Deer

Unfortunately I hit her in Ohio and I am not sure if they have the road kill law like West Virginia. Yes, West Virginia passed a law stating that if you kill an animal on the road with your vehicle you can take it home. Yum yum.

Re: Titan vs Deer

Airbags require a certain deceleration and encroachment into the engine bay more than just a bumper being dented.

Re: Titan vs Deer

Glad to hear you're okay, and the Titan faired well.

I had a similar thing happen to me, except the deer was darting back and forth in front of me, and she wouldn't just cross the road. I eventually 'bumped her' at less than 15 mph. I was doing 60 when she jumped onto the road. The deer EVENTUALLY made it across the road and back into the woods.

Another story about taking home fresh kill. Recently, a delivery truck driver was cited for picking up a dead deer. He loaded the two day old kill into his delivery truck. He delivered meat and produce for local grocery stores...YIKES!!!!

Exactly, there has to be enough front end crush to activate
the sensors that are mounted in your front end. Darn good
thing they did not blow because of replacement cost. My
wife T boned a car that pulled out in front of her
02 VW TDI Bug at 15 to 20mph. Very little front end damage.
No coolant leak. Both air bags deployed and ended up being
$12K in damage. Insurance totalled vehicle. Large in part due
to the air bag cost.

Wisconsin allows that as well, but you have to first buy a deer tag (license) before being able to take it home. DNR has got to get it's percentage.

Re: Titan vs Deer

That happened to me but it just shifted my bumper damage was nill.
Titan 1 Deer 0
Deer got up and ran away. I wonder if the amount of meat from a deer would offset the cost of a new bumper?? Assuming you have full coverage with a $500 deductible is their $500 worth of venison steaks, sausage and jerky on 1 deer??
Things that make you go HMMMMMM!!!

Road kill Law sounds like Possum stew could be just a bump in the road away.
