Put the Tundra 4.7 myth away!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong but the stronger tundras are the 4.7....right? (Well besides the newest 07 Tundras.) I was in a fiesty mood this morn going to work when I came on this Nice looking Grayish blue slightly lifted, dual exaust, Tundra. As I pull up to the light Im thinking in my head "shurly you dont want a piece of this do ya" While cracking a smile. Im thinking hes not going to hit it but I'll do a little jump and then go easy just for fun. Light turns green I jump and let off, But HE HITS IT!!! Its ON!!!! I just happen to be in first so there was no shift after the initial jump. He just got his bumper ahead of me but that was the end of his glory and the last time he was able to see the front end of my truck!! It was like taking candy from a baby. A smooth pull to about 65 when he was a little over a truck length behind me. I decided that was enough and stuck my thumb out the window to let him know it was fun. I saw two thumbs up from him and I let him catch up. I rolled My window down and asked if that was the new Tundra. His reply was in sign language and lip movement because of the noise... 4.7...... I said back I thought so because it did better than I thought it would have. Gave him a thumbs up again and went on to work.

Edit: BTW the reason I say I put the myth away is some say that the 4.7 Tundra is a 1/10 slower than the Titan in the 1/4. It doesnt even come close to that. Or maybe his lift made him that much slower.

Re: Put the Tundra 4.7 myth away!!!!

Was it a double cab or access cab? I know the AC are a little lighter but, i'm with you I never bought into that whole the tundra is almost as fast as the titan nonsence maybe with a trd supercharger thats about it though.

All the current Tundras with the V8 are the 4.7's. 2004 and prior had 235HP and a 4 speed, 2005's and 2006's have roughly 270HP and a 5 speed. I say roughly because with the new SAE standard for measuring HP, a lot of cars have changed for 06. The actual figure for the 05 tundra was 282 HP, but the 06 is now rated at 271 HP.

However you slice it, they are still no match for the Titan!!

Well the duals coming out the back is what made me want to go at it. So i thought he might have some mods done.

My bro has a '03 Access cab Tundra w/ 25k miles (he is a cop w/ a take home car). Great looking truck, he's got exhaust work, steps, and he's putting in a cold air intake this weekend. Even he admits his truck can't sniff ours. I'm pretty sure the '03-'04's were around 240-245 hp (which is kinda embarrasing compared to us). If Toyota hadn't have blown me off I may have been driving one of them. Turned out for the best though!

Funny you say that because that was going through my mind too after I raced him. I was thinking my 10' open trailer though! That could have been an even race!

Re: Put the Tundra 4.7 myth away!!!!

I raced one by accident a few months back. It was right before Rita hit Houston and gas became very scarse in the city. One of my buddy called and said he was in line at a station with gas not too far from my house so I rushed over there. On my way, I pulled up next to a V8 Access Cab. When light turned green, I was on 3/4 throttle to rush to the station. Not realizing he was racing, I got behind by 1/2 truck. I floored it and he was gone. The good news is, by the next light, he was several trucks behind me. The bad news is, after one hour waiting in line, I was only 4 cars before the pump when the station ran out of gas. Well, that made up my mind to stay and ride out the hurricane instead of leaving town.

I remember reading a truck magazine where a stock Titan was mixed in a comparison review with other racing trucks such as the Lightning, SRT10, TRD SC Tundra and a couple of others. Titan was the slowest in the group with the SC Tundra coming in next to last @14.9 1/4 mile.

Re: Put the Tundra 4.7 myth away!!!!

no one should talk about whos truck is faster... all 5 full-size are great trucks. even though the tundra has the smallest engine, there are plenty of Tundras that can outrun a Titan and vice versa

before you brag about outrunning a Tundra, make sure its an i-Force V8 with the VVT-i

You do realize this is the War Story section of the forum where folks do talk about who's truck is faster?

Agree. I do hope all 5 trucks continue to do better as competition makes better/cheaper products. I hope that Honda will soon join in with a true full-size truck too.

I didn't realize that...are we talking about stock vs stock, doublecab vs crewcab, acesscab vs kingcab?

and that's the problem. It's not easy for non-Toyota fans to easily identify i-Force V8 with VVT-i. With the Titan, it's very easy. There is only one engine, 5.6L V8, in ALL models. For the Ram, most Hemi's have the Hemi badge displayed. So far, I could only tell the difference between a V6 and V8 on the Tundra from the badge. I do realize that 05/06 have VVT-i but I still cannot easily tell the difference between 05/06 vs prior year models.

Seeing how your first 2 posts here seem to defend the Tundra, I assume you drive one. You'll find that this is one of the fewer truck forums on the net that welcome other makes...so welcome to the forum! Any info on the 07 Tundra you can share with us besides what's already been discussed? Engine output?

I did, that's what my buddy Nathan has and like I said....I could have taken him with my trailer in tow (stock).
