Lifted Titan CC vs. Ford F150 CC vs. Chevy Colorado CC...
One thing for sure, it always seems like we get one when we're not looking for one and can't find one when we want one... Driving back from the store with the woman and the rear floor full of groceries... I get to a fresh red light in the center lane, to my left is a yellow Chevy Colorado CC, brand new '06 with the paper plates still on it. To my right is a brand new black Ford F150 CC, also with paper plates. Light goes green and I hear both trucks pull out with a good screech from each one's tires... of course, I am thinking that I need to be in on this... reach right, hit my BT button and rear diff lock as I step on it a bit, downshifting to 1st and get a late solid tire smoking launch.
I notice that the Colorado is getting on it pretty good, probably had the I-5 engine in it, and the F150 is just about the front fender ahead of it as I ease into the center about mid truck of the two. The next controlled intersection or even entering roadway to this stretch of city road, posted 55 mph, is one half of a mile away, so I decide to WOT and manually upshift as my rpm's hit 5.5k, just enough for the truck to smoothly upshift on it's own.
At about 1/8 of a mile, going about 60mph, with my truck in 2nd gear at 4k rpm, my wife looks at me and says, "why are you racing these guys???" I don't reply and just stay focused on the task at hand.
As I hit the quarter mile mark, about 85mph in 3rd gear at 4k rpm, I see both trucks in the side tow mirrors, behind my rear bumper. The Colorado has the F150 by half a truck and the F150 seemed to be just about done.
As I approach the last 1/8 mile before the next light, the distance between the Colorado and me is about 1 1/2 trucks and the F150 had given up, way in the back distance.
I see that I'm doing 100mph, still in 3rd gear with about 5500 rpm's, and the engine sounds like she wants more... "WOW!" I had no idea that I could do this with my truck... I slow her down and cruise to the fresh red light as the Colorado pulls up next to my left side. Now I hear my wife say, "you feel better now?" I calmly respond, "hell f---ing yeah!"
The driver of the Colorado is about mid 20's and is motioning for me to roll my window down, so I do. He says, "man, your truck is fast... very nice run..." I tell him thanks and as the light goes green, he guns his and takes off again. I unlock my rear diff, release the BT mode, and smoothly drive home, just about 5 under the speed limit, feeling good... of course, all the way home I can feel the heat from the invisible heat ray from my wife's eyes as she is staring at me, almost in disgust, I think she didn't like the test of speed as much as I did...
Well, as far as the F150, never saw him hit the intersection before the light turned green, it seemed like he intentionally drove slower so as to not get caught up. I would like to see if I can get a hold of this Colorado guy and see if he has the I-5 engine in it or not, supposed to have 220hp stock, which IMO is nice power for such a small framed truck.
Until the next little challenge comes up, I'll still be cruising around looking for that Hemi...
