How to race the Titan?

Hey, I have yet race anyone yet (except a lil POS honda accord that i whooped). Anyways, if I ever have a Hemi pull up next to me or some other 1/2 ton that wants to race, what is the best way to race? I have the floor-mounted shifter...Should I just put it in Drive and floor it, or what?

Please no flaming for racing. I'm just curious how to get the fastest time out of my truck. Thanks.

Re: How to race the Titan?

actually it's weird..i have NO INKLING's to race..but i was driving today and I wondered if I put it in tow mode (for lower gear rapid shifting) and then popped it out if it would make a difference off the line...

What he said..no flaming or making fun of me ..i was just curious...

yea, I was wondering about the Tow mode too. I have the Big tow package, but will tow mode make it quicker off the line too?

Re: How to race the Titan?

The "Tow Mode" does not change your gearing, gearing is the same. What changes is the shift point. Instead of it shifting from 1st to 2nd at say 2000rpm, "Tow Mode" makes the shift from 1st to 2nd at like 2500rpm. Which probably would help you get going a bit quicker.

Re: How to race the Titan?

The tow mode will do nothign at WOT. It only works under normal driving conditions. At WOT it will shift at redline period.

Best launch......put your foot on the brake and bring her up to about 1000 rpms. When the ligth goes green hammer it!!!

X1000000

WOT = Wide Open Throttle... aka foot to the floor, pedal to the metal. Tow mode button does nothing.

A more apt questions would be, can I put it in 4x4 to start and then change it out at 30mph....?

I would highly advise againest that at WOT. You may just end up full time two wheel drive

Very correct about the tow button not doing anything at WOT But you are wrong on the brake torqueing. You will actually loose power doing that, the ecu lowers the throttle output when the brake is applied. and for that split second after you let off the brake it is still in a lowered throttle until the brain says" Oh he let the brake off." If you dont believe me try brake torqueing and spinning the wheels. When you relize you cant do it, look under the dash and there is a wiring harness above the brake pedel. Put the truck in Neu. and then disconnect that harness. (the reason you have to put it in neu is the steering wheel will lock and you wont be able to put in D with it disconnected) Now switch from Neu. to Drive and smoke the crap out of those tires. This is the only way a brake torque will be benificial. The only problem is the brake light dont work and when you put it in park it will be locked in park until you connect it again. The best way IMHO to race it . simply take your foot off the brake pedel and smash the gas pedel to the floor. I have found that the ecu is way more consistant at shifting the truck at the top of the power curve than I am at manually shifting it through the gears with the shifter. Yea sometimes you might do a little better shifting yourself sometimes but over all put it in 4th and smash it.

This is an absolute NO NO!!! 4X4 should never be used on dry pavement anytime. Useing 4X4 will not give you more power on the contrary alot of your power will be eaten up by the engine trying to turn the front differential. However if you are on slick roads and such this would be very benificial.
