Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

I ran a Durango RT, they have the 5.9 and a little more weight, I beat it by about two trucks lengths over about an 1/8 of a mile.

Maybe I'am misunderstanding what I read? But it was still a good kill for our large trucks to stay on the thread dman!
By modded I am talking simple bolt-on's. Headers,
programmer or custom PCM, Throttle body and
intake. Not talking NX, S/C, cams, P&P heads, etc:
A 14 flat with bolt-on's on a Ext Cab R/T is a pretty
good time. Low 15's for the 4.7L is pretty good as well.

Never said it was not a good kill. Just trying to
determine what Dakota it might have been.
I can tell you it was not a modded RC R/T. Both
you and I would be toast if it was.

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

Now it all makes sense, But I have seen R/C 4.7L's go into the mid 14's with simple bolt-ons.I know where one is that ran a 14.60 with a Borla muff. and a K&N FIPK, but he was on my ET streets ;on street tires he only ran a 15.08.

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

Wow...didn't know this kill would generate this much discussion.

I did a bit of surfing to find out the approximate year...looks like it would be an a 2001-2004 or somewhere in that range...looks like the one here: http://www.lotpro.com/cars/2003/dodg...ta/techspecs/#

As some said above it looks like the 4.7l and the 5.9l were the only 2 V8 options. Can't really say for sure which one it was, but ran pretty good for a Dakota. I didn't stop and chat with them but as I slowed down for my turn, they passed and I noticed two big chrome exhaust tips exiting under the rear bumper.

Once again they did get the early jump on me considering they were in the inside turning lane...therefore they went a shorter distance and also went full throttle well before I did.

Your right about that. I just looked back
at the DT archives and realize I made
a error. The 15.4 time I mentioned was for
a 4.7L Ram! Not a Dakota. Getting a Dakota
with 4.7L engine into the 14's is not all
that hard to do.

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

Here is a pic of a R/T. Notice the hood scoop
and extra fender flaring. A reg Dakota would not
look like this.

He can't be stock to make that claim. Yes, he would
be in for a big surprise to line up next to your Ram.

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

Happy Turkey day...

Newbie here; 1st post...

I had a v8 Dakota experience though not good

it was a nice black lowered R/T KC about 2002 model,
definately with the 5.9
he took me 0-70 from the green light (twice) and a nice
roll-on run from 20-80mph.

It obviously was not stock... he had some nice pipes tucked
under the bumper and that thing didn't spin and barely squatted
when we took off.

i tried once feathering the throttle (to keep from spinning)
and the second time just pinned it.

Oh well, she's pretty much stock pulling those heavy Mickeys,
and he couldn't follow me three feet off the pavement :-)

Just to redeem myself i smoked some kids in a Gen I with the 5.2
and no muffler hahaha

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

<----- former dakota owner, 2000 4.7 extended cab (held its own but now speed machine) and 2005 with 4.7... id say you raced a 4.7, being he was on the inside you did good just to keep up...

Re: Titan versus V8 Dodge Dakota

Good Kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You Gotta Love It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother has the an '03 Dakota 4.7 quad cab with anti-slip rear. We are both stock.

It is a very nice setup. The 5 spd auto and the handling of a smaller truck make this a joy to drive. I still think that body style is one of the sharpest looking trucks around (not the new square ones). My last truck was a '97 dakota 4 spd auto with a 5.2 and posi. I had a lot of fun with that truck and it took a beating I tell ya

Anway, I drove his truck before I bought the Titan. After I got the Titan, I thought he might take me, (I thought he'd PROBABLY take me )

We've raced twice this past year and I overtook him both times. He had the jump both times. It should be a great truck to mod, but stock to stock, the Titan will prevail no contest.

The Dakota pulls a lot of hot rodders in. I'd really like to be provoked into a little challenge by one, I'm patiently waiting until then
