FINALLY...had my first race recent. I am not one to egg people on by revving at lights or anything but then again not one to back down if someone wants to go.
Was in a double turning lane the other night when two younger kids (high school?) pull up next to me at the light in a V8 Dodge Dakota (single cab, 2wd, last gen but not current). Saw a couple of glances sent my way and they were giggling like a couple of school girls. Gave the passenger the nod and it was on. Both of us light footed through the corner until we got going straight...he was on the inside (shorter) and got a quick jump on me...my front bumper was sitting towards the back of the passenger door when I buried the throttle...he was already in it. Could hear his dual chrome exhaust start belching out the noise. I was pulling pretty good on him and within an eighth mile or less his front bumper was toward the back of the Titan. Had to get it of it as my turn was coming up very quickly...they gave me the nod as I shut it down...saw the big oversized exhaust tips under the rear bumper as they passed by. They definitely had a V8 but not sure if it was the old 318 (?) or 360.
The Dakota actually ran pretty good but my Titan took them no question...even though I have those big heavy Nitto Terra Graps (325/60 x18). I think from a dead stop it wouldn't have been even close though. Other than those tires and the leveling kit everything on my truck is bone stock.

Sounds like a regular 5.9 with an exhaust job. Nice kill though...had a guy in one of them new Dakota's with the same 5.9 wanting to race...I could tell he was flooring it...wasn't going anywhere though! LOL

What's crazy about the stock 5.9s in the Dakotas, they only rev to about 5300 rpm. Yep, can you say truck motor. Just when you would here the motor come alive, it would shift into the next gear.

It's hard to say which engine he had. The III Gen.
only come with the 4.7L as a V8 option. They are
heavier than II Gen Dakota's and gutless. We
can pretty much rule out a III Gen. Sounds like
your pretty sure it wasn't a I Gen Dakota. Their
body style is kind of boxy IMHO. The 5.2L was
the V8 option for that truck. They went pretty
good but not good enough. So we now have
narrowed it down to a II Gen truck. I am not
sure of this but I think II Gen Dakota's had the
5.2L,4.7L and the 5.9L as V8 choices. The 5.9L
being put in the R/T's. I think the R/T's ended
in 2001 or 2002. They did make them in both
a Ext Cab and RC. My guess is you raced a stock
RC R/T or a modded 4.7L. The fastest modded
RC 4.7L Dakota I seen was running 15.4's on
the Gtech. The engine does respond well to
mods. If it was a modded R/T you would have
found out!! Fastest one I heard of was a Ext
Cab and the guy dyno'd 247/327. Averaged
about 14 flat in the 1/4.

Hemi4Me , I'am Stunned, your a Dodge enthusiast and the best modified 4.7L Dakota you seen was in the 15's and the best R/T you have heard of was in the 14's? Dakotas must be rare in your area.
Maybe I'am misunderstanding what I read? But it was still a good kill for our large trucks to stay on the thread dman!
