Hah...kinda a lame story, but it happened last night so...

I was out cruising with some friends last night and we were on this two lane highway. There's this stoplight and there's this big ole Surburban next to me that I hardly even really notice. But as we're sitting next to this big a** thing, my best buddy in the passenger seat notices this equally big dude in the Chevy motioning for a race. He tells me, and I'm like wtf and I look over at him, and sure enough, the guy wants a race. I shake my head and laugh and look back over at my best friend and tell him that it wont even be a race. He replies that I should and my other two friends chime in agreement (they all love my truck and like to see it in action). I just keep on laughing and shaking my head as they beg me to take this guy up. Finally, I just say ok, and motion to the guy that its on. The guy just grins and looks straight ahead to the light as do I .

Anyways, the light changes and I hit the gas (not even all the way) and the truck leaps forward...and as I'm going, I turn my head and see that I'm already a truck length ahead of him, just like that. Anyway, I end up getting up to 50 (which all seemed to happen almost instaneously) and change lanes to get in front of him in anticipation for a turn...and I look in the review mirror...he's still a fair bit behind me, still accelerating. After the initial excitement of the race, my friends calmed down and the conversation for most of the way afterwards consisted of talking about how slow that thing was and my friends comparing their trucks to each others (not mine). Two of them own F-150's and they both say that with theirs, itd be no contest against me so then they turned to comparing the merits of each of their trucks.

I know its a lame story...that chevy was so slow it wasn't even a contest, but hey the idiot wanted to race me and I taught him a lesson. I just wish I could know what he was thinking as he saw my tail lights.

Nice kill

He was probably really thinking, "there goes a gallon of his gas"

good kill but at the same time why is he an idiot? maybe he knew he would lose and just wanted to see how well he could keep up? maybe he wasn't thinking "damn i'm gonna smoke this titan" maybe more like "i'm going to see what my chevy can do"

i'm just saying that not everyone who wants to race thinks they are going to beat you....i've raced an 03 mustang GT coupe w/full aftermarket exhaust (and i'm sure it was an auto) 20 roll to 85....i knew he'd pass me eventually but I just wanted to show him that my big *** heavy titan could give him an ok run until wind resistance took over haha i bet he was sure shocked that it took him until about 70 before he started to gain and pass me up

Re: Hah...kinda a lame story, but it happened last night so...

Heh thanks Hemi...really, I've noticed just how much gas the Titan can guzzle if you drive it hard. its just like... when you finally get home and you see where the needle was. Usually I take it pretty easy and I can get round 14-15 mpg to the gallon, but I can forsee a gas fill up a day or two sooner.

and yeah, you just might be right SC. I dunno though...that Sub was so slow I should think he would know by now that it CANNOT run....I don't know. Good run on the mustang...I'd love to find a 'stang someday and see how I could do. My best friend (same one) just broke up with a girl who had one and she'd be up to racing so it sucks that there's all this crap now. Those V-6's are surprisingly fast so it'd be a good race.

Re: Hah...kinda a lame story, but it happened last night so...

^^^You were thinking along the same lines as me. I was out MANY years ago, with a buddy of mine. We were cruising one night and come up on this Maserati. We knew there was no way in hell we'd beat him, but we tried and tried to get him to take us up on a little run. Speed past him, slow down. Repeat. No dice. We finally gave up and just kicked it up to about 70 and start on our way. Next thing we hear is this banshee scream from behind us. That car blew past us like we were painted on the fence. THAT's what we wanted to see. I'm sure the driver of that car thought the same thing about why we even wanted to try.

Good kill however calling someone an idiot because he wanted to race is how bad thingsace get started. Some people just like to race. I just think that word starts problems. Street racing isn,t a good thing to begin with.

Re: Hah...kinda a lame story, but it happened last night so...

Yeah, true. I should be more careful with my words...I'll admit, it was fun though even with me knowing he had no chance.

and if you note, I only got up to about 55. I'm not about to go full out on a public road. There was nobody out on the highway at that time really so I figured it was fairly safe. If there had been others, I wouldn't have done it. A while back I had a Tundra wanting to race me, but I declined. Guy still blew right off the line while I just moseyed along.

"most anybody he wants to race" That quote being the key phrase.

I get "tried" quite often by a lot of different vehicle owners, and I'll tell you there are some awesome sleepers out there lurking on the streets that have suprised me, including some big old boats, and I'll put nearly 2 seconds on a stock Titan in the 1/4.
I have a 05 Titan 4x4 EC company truck and actually get more call outs in it than the TBSS.

Mostly 8.6-8.7s @ 81-82 with a moderate Wester's tune. (not a hot tune) She runs 13.5s in the 1/4. It is LS2 powered.
