Chevy Silverado SS ?

Hey Gang, Does anyone know anything about the Chevy Silverado ss? I had a guy pull up on me, on the freeway, nice fire engine red, slammed, front spoiler, rims etc and sounded Nice!. I have yet to recover from the celica disaster, and I know they say "If you fall of a horse get wright back in the saddle" But I did not race the guy. He finally gave up. I left my truck in cruise and ignored his attemps, I have seen the truck comming home from work in the past but he never challenged me, that in itself, pretty much told me that something changed under his hood, at least that is my assumption. Anyone run with that type of truck? my estimate would be that his truck was born in 06,07.
TIA
Goose.

Re: Chevy Silverado SS ?

I have never personally messed with one, but reports on here are for the stock and lightly modded guys to stay away from them.

Re: Chevy Silverado SS ?

In stock form they run low 15's to mid - high 14's in the 1/4, 0-60 about 6.7- 7.0 seconds flat, i guess it all depends in the circumstances, who leaves first, who has more wheel spin etc. They do however weigh a couple hundred pounds less than a Titan .

They had one at the track last night running a 15 flat first run and a 15.33 the second run last night.

Re: Chevy Silverado SS ?

I believe a Titan can keep up with one if the SS is stock, and the Titan has an E/I.

Re: Chevy Silverado SS ?

My Titan when stock beat 3 at the track. They are heavily undertuned. They have a 6.0 with unlimited aftermarket, actually a great motor to have, but GM kill them with tq managment off the showroom floor, probably for gas milage, which still isnt anybetter than us. They are great trucks, a little heavier than a regular silverado though. And expensive! I know cause i tried to get one way back when lol

Also the early ones where only AWD. Pretty cool but price dropped a bit when you could order RWD

Man I wanted to go to State Capitol last night (I'm sure the DA was awesome last night) but didn't feel like dealing with all the extra traffic from I-10 being closed. Then being that they had an SS with a best run of 15 flat, I would have made him look bad in my 05 CrewCab 5.3L running the same thing. I do have a few mods, but he has a 6.0L. Unless it was some clown with a regular pickup with SS badging?

You run anything last night? Any good numbers to post?

Re: Chevy Silverado SS ?

Like leadslead i also was tempted by the chevy SS even drove one. to my surprise the dealer threw my dad and i the keys, it was a south philly lot in an industrial area, so the test drive was fun. unfortunately the deal killer was my insurance payments if i were to purchase the truck. great throttle responce, realy easy to smoke the rear wheels.

he might be hiding a new mod under his hood so you never can tell. there are a few guys on this board, one owns an ss and another guy from pittsburg has a pretty heavliy modded gmc. hopefuly they'll chime in with some numbers and more insight.

man, everyone is always trying to race you guys... how come i can't find anyone to run? what's the deal? oh, it could be the baby seat in the back.. hmm

Stock 07 was running mid to high 16's at a track with 2700' elevation. Even if you take off a 1/2 sec that still isnt very "SS" like. They had a limited edition 'Joe Gibbs' 5.3 singlecab you could get for a while. Magna charger came on it, only downside was the ugly stepside configuration. Stoped doing them at the dealership cause so many broken tranny's
