War StoriesThis section is for discussion of any races you may have particpated in. If you smoked someone like a pack'o'cools, let us know. Likewise, if you got beat... let us know by what, so we can keep an eye out for it next time.
So the g/fs neighbor has this 88 camaro, and he wants to run me. The guy speaks broken english and from what the gf can translate, he bored out his 5.7 to a 5.9, has pop up pistons, shift kit, cams, exhaust, intake, modified valves and a supercharger. He claims to be putting out 460hp. Id this possible from a car that only puts out 175hp stock? Or is he just blowing smoke up my arse. Just dont wanna waste my gas.
He also claims to be able to smoke corvettes.

Have you seen the car? What does it sound and look like?
I'd like to know how this conversation started. Someone was bragging about their car and someone else said....."oh yeah well I drive a Tundra".
Nah, he sometimes just sits in his car turns it on, revs a couple times, beer in hand, and then turns it off and goes inside. The other day he was outside and i asked him what he was running and in spanglish/ drunk talk, he went on and on, and wanted to know if i wanted to see for my self. I told him anytime, jokingly, but he was kinda like right now? then when? so i was like in a couple weeks we'll goto the track. Ive heard him rev before but i dont hear a whine, so i dunno about the s/c. Very strange guy.

The next time you go by his house, stop your truck and power-brake it until he comes outside. Then when he asks you WTF are you doing, tell him your getting ready to smoke his sorry azz and see what he does. That ought to do it...........

If he has an '88 L98 (350) TPI...then he is putting out about 225 at the motor (about 188 to the wheels).......That is in PRISTINE stock form. I HIGHLY doubt this guy put THAT much work into this car. Pop his hood and look for the ATI Procharger (supercharger of choice for the Fbod crew) to validate his claim. I had a 1989 Formula 350 (same motor) with a good bit of bolt ons and I dyno'ed STOCK numbers due to pinging. Put a crate 350 in after a Nitrous melt down....Now I would RIP you a new a$$hole from light to light but top end SUCKED!!!!!! TPI chokes the HELL out of the car on the top end. If you REALLY want to smoke him (if he is bogus on the mods) then run him from a 25 mph roll and watch him go bye bye.

A friend of mine builds motors and transmissions for drag racers. My father-n-law owns a mechanic shop. I also have many friends who drag race. I'm no expert on motors but I think this guy is full of sh!t and here is why. I don't think just boring the cylinders will get him from a 5.7 to a 5.9 because it takes boring and stroking to get a 5.7 to a 6.0 and most of that change is from the stroke. I've never heard of "pop up pistons" before, I assume he is talking about a dome piston which will increase compression. Generally people running a supercharger will decrease compression when running a supercharger.
460HP out of that motor isn't impossible but the ones I've seen make that kind of power had much more work done to them than what was listed above.
What kind of tires is he running on the camaro, because if he is making that kind of power, I would think he would be running drag radials.
Run him, if you happen to loose, big deal, you got beat by a modded sports car in your stock truck.
Im begining to think hes full of it too. The things not even running right now. Were supposed to goto the track next thursday, but i dont think he'll show. Maybe if I understood spanish better, I could get you a better list of mods. From what i can see he's on regular street tires.
