Red face Titan vs E39 540iA

What does it take a Titan with a passenger to hang with me from standstill (I had minimum wheelspin) till good 70-75mph, and I didnt evet get away by more than a CL before 100mph It sure sounded mean

P.S. If it was stock, then

Re: Titan vs E39 540iA

As I understand your post, you're a BMW 540 driver who has come on to a Titan forum asking why a Titan can't hang with you in a race? Hmmm, where shall a rational person start with a response?

Now you tell me. What have I gotten wrong here?

can NOT? When did I say that? we were side by side till 75mph and my eyes were 20" wide as to how is this possible. It wasnt stock was it? Does exhaust give you guys some boost, or he might've had anything besides that?

Re: Titan vs E39 540iA

Without going and checking stats on the two, here's my guess...

Weight
Horsepower
Torque

Jimminy. It's apples and oranges. Can a 540 tow 7500 lbs in ANY configuration? That's about the lowest (approximate) weight a Titan could tow in it's base configuration.

You should have dusted a stock Titan to 60 mph. Our mods are limited as far as performance goes, so it had to have been modded. What that might have been?

It better be, otherwise Im stomped. It did much better than a TrailBlazer SS and a 1500 Ram I've ran before as far as trucks/SUVs go

possibilities sense this post subject isnt going anywhere so far:
supercharger (doubt it)
cold air intake-prob
exhaust-possibly u would know if it was loud as buck
throttle body spacer-very common among us owners i would say
programmer- possibly

thats about all i can think of. Correct me if im missin ne thing which i know i am. In my opinion it comes down to you should be ashamed of your beamer and join us that way you can pwn other bmw owners and still have 20g's left over. I found these times for an 03 bmw of urs. 0-60 MPH 6.16 s
0-70 MPH 8.02 s

Exhaust was loud, he was revving it too. No FI for sure, I would hear it.

Im not ashamed of the bimmer (beamer is for BMW bikes) a bit, its a '97 and I spent $14K out the door with 60K miles last year =)) We are comparing apples to oranges here other than price, but I can honestly say I was impressed in a good way. I definitely got pwned mentally, since I expected something completely different. Before I rolled up to the light I recalled reading somewhere that Titans are fast for 305hp, but I sure didnt know it was that fast. I dynoed mine @ stock

Mad props to the Titan, I can appreciate nice cars from Civics to Royces

Re: Titan vs E39 540iA

The guy raced a TITAN and was shocked how fast the 3 ton slug was going.

The Titan had to be tuned by Up-rev or some other tuner....no doubt....and no....an exhuast doesn't give us boost....it gives us drone.

Welcome to the fourms.

Hey now, the guy is trying to give us props, i say we take it when we can get it because it is rare that an owner of another vehicle type makes an effort to come to a Titan forum to drop a compliment, hats off for that effort...

Re: Titan vs E39 540iA

actually the titans are VERY underated at 305 at the flywheel because most titans can put down anywhere from 280's to close to 300 at the wheels stock! mine put down 302.8 with just an exhaust which is a good 350+ at the flywheel. i'm not real familiar with your generation BMW 540 but i know the newer ones are crazy fast in the 1/4 (i think around low 14's to high 13's for the 6sp. manuals). do you have any 1/4 mile times or 0-60 times for your car?? if so we could give you a much better idea as to what mods he might have had. alot of titans can hit mid-high 14's with just intake, exhaust and a tune. these trucks fly for a big heavy truck and will demolish a stock hemi ram anyday. are you sure it was a trailblazer ss that you raced or that he was racing if it was a ss?? those things will rape us anyday, even a fairly modded titan.

I ran 14.6@97mph with no traction thru first>going into second>a bit of second gears. I then ran on average 14.1@99.5mph both ways on a highway using an Escort GT2 G-Meter - most people that have compared it to the official track times said it's within .02% of accuracy, can't comment on that either way.

97-98s were first year of my gen (E39) and usually dyno more than 99-03 models due to larger intake manifold runners and overall ducting. Headers are directly from ///M5 as well, I dynoed almost what factory claims @ the wheels lol Mine is handicapped by a 2.81 rear end tho, newer ones have 3.15 thats a direct swap =)) New 550i/6 speed runs 13 flat no problem =))

Yes, it was a TB SS albeit a 4WD version and I wasnt stupid enought to go from a dig. From about 20 to 80 he was @ my front fender, after 80 I started inching away =))

With the Titan, I just couldnt win lol. I was expecting him in my drivers side mirror - "anytime now, anytime" and instead I look over and see his passenger (girl) smile @ me, then I glance @ the speedo and Im @ 80mph already After that I started pulling away and had a CL before 100, but I mean cmon 100mph and only 1 CL between me n a truck?

I slowed down, rolled the window down and stuck my thumb up out the window. He slowed down as well and the girl gave me thumbs up as they slowly passed me. They were cool folks
