My Truck: 08 CC 4X4 LE
His Truck: New Chevy CC probably 5.3L 2wd
I was driving around Houston and was in the center lane. An 18 wheeler was in the right lane and the chevy was in the left lane. I was driving faster than both of them, but as I got beside the chevy he sped up. I gave it some gas just to pass him but he sped up even more. The road opened up and I floored it constantly leaving him the whole time. I slowed down and he did the pi$$ed off chevy drive by. I stayed in the center lane and a little while later the chevy moved to the right lane and slowed down some. I eventually caught up to him and stayed at his side to entice him for another run. A car was in front of him so he moved all the way over to the right lane and I let him build up some speed before I floored it. I had to catch up to his speed, but eventually passed him very convincingly. He didn't want to make a 3rd run.
My Dad has a 2008 Ext. Cab 5.3L. It drive wonderfully, feels very stable, accelerates smoothly. Just doesn't have the punch and power of the T. Or the stock growl for that matter.
The newer Chevys have a four second delay before the ECU will allow a WOT position.

So now it's just Chevy guys that do the drive by All kidding aside, careful about racing through Houston, i'm down there at least once a month and that traffic is crazy!

Traffic was pretty tame since it was late at night
Yes it does.....the Predator Programmer I have is supposed to turn off Torque Management. Well, this weekend after doing a data log of a WOT run with HP Tuners, we saw throttle position go from 100% to 40% and timing drops way down at shift points. In 2 weeks I'm on vacation and will be pulling the predator program out and having it professionally tuned with HP Tuners on a dyno.
The guy that is going to tune my truck is a STS turbo dealer. He just finished a '08 4x4 GMC, rebuilt the motor with all the good stuff to handle 10 - 12 psi of boost. After spending a few hours tuning on it and on the phone with HP Tuners, if they turn up the boost more than 8psi the truck won't shift. A tech is flying down from HP Tuners this week to see if he can figure out what the problem is. The truck did put down 450rwhp at 8lbs of boost.
Friday night at the track, there was a truck similar to mine with similar mods, but he was tuned with HP Tuners and he had the stock torque converter. He ran 3mph and .1 sec in the 1/4 faster than I did. I ran 14.95 @ 90 and he went 14.85 @ 93 and his 60ft was 2.2 compared to my 2.1. I'd stay out ahead of him until about the 1000 ft before he would pass me. There was also a bone stock '07 Titan at the track that ran numerous 15.0x passes. I ended up going 3 rounds before I lost due to red light -.018 when running against a 17.5x jeep then the jeep broke out so I could have slept at the light...oh well always next time.
Anway, nice kill on the Chevy and not all of us Chevy owner to a ricer flyby. Shoot if I run someone on the street and loose, I'll slow down to go again or at least give the other guy a thumbs up. I don't care if I win or loose....I just like to race.
I was looking at the newer Chevy trucks, I'm going to be buying in the next few months (hopefully) but with the recent cr@p with GM.......there is only one other choice of truck for me......a TITAN!
My buddy recently traded his 06 titan in for a 370z. He pretty much destroyed the rear end on that truck. How strong are they supposed to be?
I have a 2006 4WD and have at least 100+ track passes, and 3-4 tuning sessions on the dyno with this truck. Numerous burn outs, street racing, and off-roading. Never a problem. Knock on wood it stays that way too. I'm still getting a Tru Trac though.
