War StoriesThis section is for discussion of any races you may have particpated in. If you smoked someone like a pack'o'cools, let us know. Likewise, if you got beat... let us know by what, so we can keep an eye out for it next time.
Last time I went to the track I ran against a truck almost identical to mine with the only difference being he was tuned with HP Tuners and I had a handheld predator programmer. He beat me at the track, so this got me looking at my tune. A friend of mine with Data Logging software logged some WOT runs on my truck to find throttle position going from 100% to 40% and timing droping from 25 degrees to 6 degrees at shift points. Then we found that WOT launches started at 0 degrees timing went to 2 degrees timing until almost 4000rpms before it went up to 25 degrees. I worked with support at diablo sports to address these issues but they were only able to get the shift points a little better. Well yesterday, went see the friend that helped me data log and we removed the predator tune and tuned it with HP Tuners. After the tuning was complete there was a major difference, my truck has never ran this good, doesn't feel like I'm driving the same truck. Also installed a vette servo, will bark the tires on the 1-2 shift sometimes.
Now on to the kill story......While we were data logging and test driving after getting the tuned finished, we ran across a guy with an older '98 model reg cab Chevy pickup. I'm not sure all of his mods, but I know he ran similar times as I have. We went on a back road that is just sugar cane fields on each side. We ran 3 times, I pull a lenght to a lenght and a finder on him every time. This was with Intake Air Temps between 100 - 104 degrees and with a 300lbs passenger (my friend who tuned my truck). The difference from a hand held programmer to a custom tune is just amazing. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. Can't wait to see what it will run now, last time out with the predator tune and a DA of 2100 feet and ran in the 14.9x range @ 90.x mph. I'm hoping to pick up a couple tenths and a couple mph.
nice kill man. Good to know that its not just the SS guys that can go fast. Most of the 5.3 silverados around here just sound loud but dont really go anywhere.

Awsome man, make sme jealous of the chevys aftermarket and tuning options! I have a friend(he comes on here every now and then, he has an 07 XE) that is a wizz with HP tuner and he has tuned his T/A and his old daily driver Z28 along with several other peoples cars. Handhelds are nice but they are NO comparison to a custom tune. If your tuner was cutting back that much you'll probably pick up more than a couple of tenths! Your friend must have a ton of mods to have the older Vortec engines running in the 14's. Heck my old 2002 ford with the 5.4 would kill my friends 96 Z71 with the 5.7 vortec.

Thanks....the '98 does have some work done to it, it would be much faster if it had better fuel injection and tuning. I been doing as much side computer upgrades/repairs I can get to save up some money for some more mods......I want some 13sec time slips!!!!!!
socaliallstar82.....I noticed you have a McGaughy's 2/4 drop kit, do you like it? I've been looking at them too.
I love it. Had a little issue with it this week. Notice my ride went from way improved to way harsh. In case you were wondering, all the talks about the tundra's being a rough ride...totally true. Back end shakes like crazy.
This past week everytime i hit a bump or a dip, it would sound and feel like i was bottoming out. I looked under and saw nothing. Kinda starting getting to me so i took a better look and and my rear shocks ripped through the top hole where they bolt in. I need to get bigger washers. Still drivable, i just gotta watch out for the dips. Either i installed it wrong (im sure i didnt) or the design is a little lacking.
