Re: Helping a buddy out!

Nearly every exhaust moded STI I pass has kind of a radical sound to it for a 4 banger, loud and very nice deep tone compared to allot of other 4 bangers I usually see. Definitly one of the best sounding 4 bangers out there other than a old toyota pushrod 3t's with weber sidedrafts. They kinda remind me of allot of Mustangs with nice exhaust work, in a sea of ordinary V8's driving on the road they really stand out sound wise.

yeah, like i said earlier...the subaru engine is more or less the same as a porsche 911 turbo engine, just minus 2 cylinders. so, the wrx's and sti's sound porsche-ish, and Lord knows...thats a beautiful sound.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

I managed to hold off an older wrx(the first body style to come to the US) until about 70mph when I just had my exhaust. We were at a light and hit it just after we started to roll so I took his nasty AWD launch out of the race(that would have killed me!). I pulled about a truck length on him and held it to about 70mph when we had to let off. He was starting to gain on me though right before we let off which is why I think this story is BS because he says he just kept pulling away. Also the wrx I messed with was COMPLETELY stock down to the dinky little dual tipped muffler and whisper quiet intake/turbo. On a higher mph roll or with a good awd launch even the older ones bone stock are out of a titans league(at least a pretty much stock titan anyway). Do you have any pics of this altima?? Surely somebody with that much money and time invested in their altima would have some pics of it right? Or some timeslips? What kind of tuner are you running on it? How much boost? What size injectors? Please, a little more info than the turbo, 3" exhaust(which I think would be on the small side for a bigger v6 with a turbo considering that 2.0 and 2.4 4cyls are runnign 3" exhausts) and your active traction control(since when has anybody ever mentioned that in a custom built high hp car???). Must be one mean fwd to only be beat by ferraris! Poor vipers, watch out!

haha, not calling BS on his altima...but i did a little youtubing and the fastest F/I'd altima i found was running 12.8's...which, there are MANY sports cars that are MUCH cheaper than a ferrari that run that stock at a track

Re: Helping a buddy out!

Yeah and i'm sure to get a 12.8 out of a fwd car they had slicks on it. I know one would be really fast if you modded it up heavy because they are pretty fast cars, for a v6 family sedan, stock. A titan would need intake, exhaust and a good tune just to run with a stock v6 altima with a manual transmission, and even then the titan still might lose. They are really quick cars for what they are.

No kidding lol, infact I'll be shooting for a 12.8 atleast next time out with street tires, and deeper 12's if I get my drag radials. That's in a big 4 door truck.

As far as the Impreza the OP raced, IMO it was most likely a modded non turbo one the way he pulled on it. That car would fit the story allot better than a turbo WRX. For example a 2004-2005 Impreza 2.5 RS sedan, they are rated at 7.9 sec 0-60 and 15.9@89mph for the manual transmission model.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

Don't want to be flamed here or anything, but anyway this driver of the WRX could have been horrible; i.e. bouncing off the limiter slows you down quite a bit.

I've had personal experience with a WRX that was turbo'd in my buddy's Tacoma on the freeway. We would be tie 60-100 and then he would slightly pull. My buddy just had intake and exhaust, so yeah. Horrible driver? Probably. He really liked his blow off valve though, he would constantly make that thing go off.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

Or he could have modded it and made it slower. Some guys put the big loud BOV on thier stock WRX's and they loose power/get slower since it bleeds way too much off then boost suffers, which is why some guys stick with the stock re-circulating one untill a certain point. The stupid ricers think it's cool, and they want everyone to hear thier awsomely loud blow off. They don't realize it's blowing off so much in excess it's killing thier boost.

I'm not trying to defend the WRX, just trying to be the voice of reason since if we don't be objective about something that just seems off, then the stories just start getting outa hand. Which I'm not saying is the case here, but we all know it has happened before on here.

However, this story is a big difference from say Silverstars race which is believable. Silverstars race was from a roll that he managed to get a jump on and hold that untill 70mph, which is a little under the 1/8 mile for the Titan. With the WRX not getting the AWD launch advantage and having to make up a little before it started pulling on him around the 1/8mile, yeah sounds believeable. The titan's strong point is the 1/8mile too.

The OP's story is different in the fact that he was the one who made up the disadvantage and reeled the car in then left the car easily, then managed to spank it from a dig descicisvely.

You're probably right, but thought I would be the odd man out here for once. lol

Re: Helping a buddy out!

I could very well be wrong, you know these youngs kids now can't drive for sh!t lol. Thing about AWD is there's almost no excuse for being such a sh!tty driver. It really would take a dumbsh!t to loose a race that bad in that car to that truck though lol.

How's about the OP post up some vids of his wifes turbo Altima, or some pics of the engine bay. My bullsh!tometer has a slight tingle

Re: Helping a buddy out!

my buddy has a wrx with 230 horsepower to the wheels and 320 ft/lbs of torque.

To beat it off the line you better be spraying off the line with some sticky tires in your titan, lets just say that lol. I've never been put in the seat by any car like that before.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

The main reason I think major bs on the wifes altima is look at the list of "mods" he listed! Big turbo(ok how big? how bout a specific turbo like t3/t4, 60mm, something other than "big", then he goes onto the nitrous(yeah...ok... so you're running a big turbo AND spray on this engine?? Who built this engine because it's gonna need serious interanl work to run turbo AND spray), the strut tower bar??? since when does a strut tower bar have ANYTHING to do with making hp or drag racing?? They are to stiffen up the front end for better handling. Oh and last but CERTAINLY not least the "active traction control" HAHAHA sounds like he was reading a nissan sales brochure while he was typing! Who runs a ultra high performance car with the traction control ON? Oh maybe he swapped in ferrari's launch control "active traction control" or the one out of the GTR?? This "mod" list is what makes me call major bs because anyone who knows anything about racing or building cars would have went into a little better detail and left out some of the nonsense things on his mod list.
