Helping a buddy out!

Last weekend I'm cruising down a quite backroad when I come up on this nasty sounding Subaru Impreza. I look past him and there is my buddy in his little Ranger (he's saving up for a Titan. LOL!). This is a pretty lazy double yellow road with no where to pass for a while. So i follow this Impreza for 4 or 5 miles when we come up to the part where we're starting to get back to town and it opens up to 4 lanes. As soon as the road got just wide enough the Impreza flooring it, sounding really loud and nasty and blew by my buddy. Well I wasn't going to let one of my buds go down so I floored the T and she squated and launched. I blew by my buddy (sorry I know he got killed twice) and closed right on the Impreza. I sat there for a second and did a nice Days of Thunder style draft and sling shot. I came out around him was gone. He just looked dumb, for the second I could see him.

I get up the the stop light and the Impreza pulls up and rolls down his windows and says something about i caught him napping so I told him on green go. When the light turned green I was all over him. I had him by about a quarter truck off light. By 200 feet I had him by a truck length and by the 1000 feet he was fading fast.

My buddy was behind him during all this and calls me later and said the Impreza was bouncing off the rev limiter and sounding like it was going to blow up trying to catch me.

Man it feels good to help a buddy out!

Re: Helping a buddy out!

I'm guessing this was a non-turbo Impreza, not a WRX Impreza right?

Re: Helping a buddy out!

Don't think so but may have been. It had a loud whiny exhaust and looked to be like and 02 or 03. Big tail lights and real square. Had the scoop on the hood that was closed off and the big lower driving lights.

omfg

see these are the kinds of posts the former member known as "titanseatpenis" was referring to. dude, hate to rain on your parade...but you DID NOT beat a turbo impreza. in order for your truck have beaten that impreza there had to have been a number of things possible:

1)it was a non-turbo and just had exhaust (hince the closed off scoop, also WRX's dont have driving lights)
2)he broke
3)he wanted to make you feel better
4)upon acceleration his phone flew to the back of the car so he let off to find it
5)realized he could walk you so he decided it wasnt worth it
6)this occurred in a dream, and you woke up and decided to share

the list could go on, bottom line...it wasnt a turbo impreza, those run 4.1-4.5 0-60.

even though it wasnt a turbo car, good kill amigo.

rant. over.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

That's fine. I wasn't racing for the kill for me it was to put the guy in his place for running like he had a real car.

Anytime I beat some what a fast car I feel good b/c my truck weighs 2 to 3 times as much and isn't built for racing. Just kinda love the whole "oh crap a big CC truck just beat me" look they give you when you do it.

If I want to take on Turbo impreza I get my wifes 06 altima. It has the 3.5 a big nasty turbo 3.5" exhaust, a 50 shot of NOS, strut tower bar and active traction control. Never lost to anything short of a Ferrai yet.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

You can hear the difference in a turbo and non turbo car especially if it had an exhaust. But yeah, I tried racing a Subie wrx on the freeway.....couldn't catch up.....and he was stock. lol

yeah, they're fast as f*ck...like i said, 4.1-4.5 seconds to 60, pretty sure it's a 4 cyl. boxer engine too...similar to porsches, except i believe porsches are 6 cyl.

Your confusing the WRX with the WRX STI. The regular WRX has a 0-60 of around 5.6-5.7 and 1/4mile of 14.2-14.4. The STI is the one with a 4.7-4.8 0-60 and 1/4mile of 13.4 usually. 4.1 0-60 is a bit too fast for a stock one, usually the road test all show 4.7-4.8 0-60, albeit no doubt that real world owners should be able to best that by a couple ticks in good DA. Either way, both those cars are far too quick for a stock or close to stock Titan to compete with.

Re: Helping a buddy out!

Thank you Hawaii, I couldn't believe I was reading all these posts....That model/year WRX was nice but it wasn't THAT nice LOL. I had a buddy with one at an old job, he went and ran 14.7's with it, also saw some high 14's low 15's out of some on Dragtimes. Bad drivers I know, but just sayin

Re: Helping a buddy out!

I've never heard a boxer engine sound like it was going to blow up when revving out lmao. They are the quietest engine i've heard when revving out actually, exhaust or not. thank the turbo for the quiet part.
