2017 towing mirrors

Just purchased a 2017 SL crew cab and I dont like the towing mirrors. Does anyone know if they can be swaped out for the standard mirrors and if they would be just a plug and go?

Thanks

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

Ha, I see I am not the only one. I want the towing package and spray-in bedliner but not those wide mirrors. Makes getting in the garage very challenging. I looked at the trucks with and without mirrors and they look like they have the same trim size. As such, I imagine they should easily swap out. I'd love to hear from someone as well if they can. Perhaps just looking at a parts diagram would give the answer. I checked ebay and they appear to have the same bolt patterns. Also, the towing mirrors are selling for a small fortune. I did see on nissan parts warehouse website that the regular mirror assembly is $185 per mirror and tow mirrors are right under $600. Looks like you could sell the old ones on ebay and recoup the cost. Just have to confirm the pig tails match. Im sure the parts counter or body shop can do that.

I have to agree with you guys after driving with the towing mirrors for a bit. I wanted the utility package to get the utility track rails and spray in liner. But, there was no way I could have avoided the towing package then.

I have a half an inch to an inch on either side of my tow mirrors to my garage doorway. When I bought the truck, I measured the difference between the tow and the normal mirrors. Wish I remembered what it was. 2 or 3 inch wider on each side. That would make my garage a lot easier. I also go down a lot of very narrow roads with trees right on the edge and passing cars. Gets a little hairy sometimes.

Curious to see what you guys figure out. I wouldn't mind getting the standard mirrors either.

I have the same Truck and I love my tow mirrors. Why don't you like yours?

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

The 1st generation mirrors could be easily swapped between towing and regular mirrors, so I don't see why the 2nd generations would be any different. As far as I remember, it's a simple plug-n-play project that just required removing 3 or 4 bolts and reconnecting the wiring harness. In fact, I think there's writeup here somewhere with details on how to do the swap.

This might be helpful (although I'm sure you might be able to find better diagrams somewhere else):

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

If you haven't already, before doing anything you should probably measure how far out the non-tow mirrors are from your truck first, and compare that to your tow mirrors. I'm not sure the non-tows are that much narrower. The tows give you added height, the separate convex mirror, and the ability to extend the whole mirror outward; just not sure they're actually wider when retracted. Maybe an inch or two? If so, maybe that's enough for what you need.

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

I'm curious, but aren't the Tow mirrors manually extendable? Have you checked to make sure they are pushed in all the way?

Exactly was my thoughts and meant to mention that. I bet those mirrors were already pulled out at time of signing lol

With both tow mirrors fully in the truck width is definitely 4-6 inches wider overall...2-3 inches each for each mirror. I measured when buying for my garage. I just cant remember if it was 2 or 3 inches longer for each tow mirror.

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

I was curious so I checked the specs. Standard mirrors overall width is 93.31 inches. With tow mirrors in all the way it is 98.19, so almost 5 inches wider. Pull the tow mirrors out and now you are at 102.6 inches wide, so just over 9 inches wider. Wow.. that's mailbox banging territory.

Call it proper visibility when towing a trailer. Too many people do not have a clue how to set their mirrors when towing. Nissan did a good job designing these tow mirrors. I have had no problem going anywhere with my tow mirrors, car wash booth etc. no problems, why are you guys complaining?. Its actually quite comical to have such a complaint lol

Re: 2017 towing mirrors

If I could figure out a way to retrofit a set of tow mirrors on my Leaf, I would. I thought I've seen everything before, but I stand to correct myself. Complaining about tow mirrors, sheesh. I loved the tow mirrors on my Titan. The visibility they provide is well worth the very small pain of folding them in when going into narrow spaces.
