Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

Talked with the dealer yesterday, and the engine has not arrived yet. They were hoping it was going to be here on Tuesday, and now its Friday they are hoping to get it. Not sure who is telling the white lies - the dealer to me, or Nissan to the dealer. They told me to extend my rental (which either the dealer or Nissan is paying, but not me!) for another week.

Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

So does this have anything to do with Nissan making the 5.6 direct fuel injected ?

Problem seems to be in bottom end. Short block or Long Block seem to be a mileage thing. If you have really low mileage like less than 15000. Most likely will get long block. Probably also factor if they find material/ up top when they pull valve covers borescope etc.

I'm very much interested in knowing what steps (if anything) your service dept did after they fully installed your engine into your truck to the time that the keys were given to you.

I've just read a post by tckmtr74 found in the "the engine knock" thread. In it he describes how his service dept drove the truck for 100 miles (to check for codes, rattles, squeals, etc) and then completely changed the oil and coolant (to make sure there were no chips or metal floating around) and then hooked it up to the computer to run graphs and sent the results to Nissan for approval before they released the truck to him. He lives in the US

After reading this post, I'm definitely going to make sure my service manager follows the same steps. My short block has arrived - installation scheduled for May 27th

The lead Tech that did my short block repair test drove truck for about 110 km or so had it for 2 days after install to make sure it was all perfect. Double checked as much of his work over again before returned to me. Truck was washed waxed interior cleaned sounds very similar to tckmtr74 dealer experience . I did ask for the double check thou because I had trip planned as soon as I got truck back. Truck has been rock soild seen repair engine is quite no fitment issues of other parts no rattles or weird noise truck work as should repaired at 13600km now 29890km .

I took my wife to are local Toyota dealership ,she was interested in checking out new Rav4 and seen basically the same thing with the Tundra frames here lol . I agree they are all great when working correctly and all a piece of S**T when broke. To me it's how the Manufactuers handle the issue. Nissan Canada gets failing grade in my books , thankfully my local Nissan dealership is awesome and does everything it can to try and keep ther customers happy

I agree with you about the grade for Nissan Canada as for my dealership, they'll be doing two short block replacements (both in 2nd generation Armadas) right before mine - so if anything the technician(s) doing the work on mine will have lots of practice.

Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

My 2017 PRO4X is in the shop since Monday morning for the short block swap. Went to the shop this morning to see the progress, so far the engine is out, they are still to remove the heads and swap the parts. Estimated time by Nissan is 22 hours... will take way more than that. don't know if Nissan will update their thinking and begin to send long blocks in order to save time and eventually money in the end. As I can read most of the faulty blocks seem to have the #7 cylinder as the root cause, but I got confirmation that mine was faulty on all 8 at 48 000km.

Will wait for the job to get done and post an update when something new gets in.

Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

Weird why it would take 30 k miles to start showing and not earlier … maybe the engine needs heavier dino.

Seems most average around the 15k mark. I have a buddy who is a master tech at a Chevy dealer...I was telling him about these engine issues... he is baffled but we both think it is possibly an oil pump pressure or oil passage clog issue. Thinks cyl 7 is the last cyl to get oil (imagine water flowing thru pipes) and if oil is not being delivered properly the cyl 7 will wear faster than the others...

All professional speculation of course.....

Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

So, I'm hearing this issue affects the Gen2 Armada also.

Has Nissan released any info about the root cause and what the solution is? Are the replacement engines any different than the failing engines?

I can't find any info on Armada forums about this (but the Armada forums are pretty dead)

Also, this should affect the QX80? Which has been out a few years before Gen2 Titans and Armadas, did the earliest QX80s suffer these engine failures?

The Armada is my aspirational replacement for my Gen1 Titan, but I gotta be sure this cylinder 7 issue is solved

To answer some of your questions, NO Nissan hasn't released any info regarding this engine issue and probably we'll know the TRUE reason. According to my service manager, Nissan has tweaked the short block engine and Nissan states that they have fixed the issue.

My dealership here in Winnipeg has just completed two short block engine replacements and both were in 2nd generation Armadas. If you're looking at the Armada - first check the build date, somewhere I read that the "FIX" is done for late 2018 and 2019 built engines (5.6L).

As for the Infinity, I haven't read anything about any issues with the QX80 engines

Re: 2017 Nissan Titan SV Engine failure !!!!!

Weird that I couldn't find any info online about QX80 engines failing.

I was kinda hoping to pick up a lightly used Armada, but looks like I'll have to keep the production date in mind.
